Led and revitalized several engineering teams responsible for key Location Platform Services that served millions of vehicles, phones, enterprise apps and smart devices. Areas of responsibility included Real-time Traffic, Map Rendering, Map Compilation, Visual Content and Data Services for navigation, autonomous driving and mobile maps. Dramatically increased the quality of HERE's Real-time Traffic services over an 18 month period which resulted in winning several new deals to put HERE Traffic in a market leading position for the Automotive market. Improvements were realized by raising the team's engagement level, introducing Agile and CI/CD practices, deploying machine learning, moving from private data centers to a public cloud and dramatically increasing the amount of real-time GPS data that could be ingested and processed.Developed and deployed a new product strategy targeting the Autonomous Driving and 3D Navigation markets which has led to several wins at the world's top automotive companies, a halo effect for our core mapping business and C-level interaction for the first time in the sales team's history.Led the development of key subsystems for in-dash navigation systems deployed in high end Audi, Porsche, Volkswagon, Jaguar/Land Rover, Honda and Lamborghini vehicles.

Developed and executed Nokia's technology strategy for transforming its mapping capabilities from a low-tech, 2D process to a high-tech, 3D process in order to win in autonomous driving and next generation navigation markets. Led the activity to identify, perform due diligence and purchase innovative 3D startup companies whose IP became the foundation for building Nokia's next generation mapping program.Led the integration and expansion of one of the acquired companies. Expanded that office from 12 to 70 employees while only losing 1 employee to bad attrition. Successfully transitioned the team from a startup mode to a highly effective contributor in a multi-site 200+ global engineering team.Led Agile transformation of the product development organization including a work space re-engineering effort to transform from a standard, corporate cube environment to an open seating environment geared to accelerate Agile product development.

Secured regulatory approval from the European Commission that enabled the 8.1 billion dollar acquisition of NAVTEQ by Nokia to close. Served as the company's technology expert in this exercise and was one of only four to present and argue our position to the commission. This activity involved creating a long term technology roadmap for map making and articulating the resulting impacts on the competitive landscape which proved to be true.Led Agile transformation of an 800+ person, waterfall based product development organization optimized for quarterly DVD based delivery of map content to an Agile based organization providing on demand, services targeting the mobile phone, enterprise and next generation automotive markets.

Developed and deployed to production automated LIDAR and Imagery based data collection and processing technologies that ultimately transformed NAVTEQ's mapping operations and enabled entry into the autonomous driving market.Developed and launched the first versions of several commercial products including Advanced Driver Assistance Maps, Traffic and Pedestrian Guidance.

Served as both the engineering lead and product manager for the flagship product which was a real-time, clean room Java VM targeted at the network infrastructure market which was sold to Nortel, Cisco and several other OEMs.Started a software development office in the Chicago area and grew the office from 0 to 25 highly talented and motivated engineers in 18 months. Instituted a nimble, scalable software development process based heavily on automated testing, code reviews, continuous integration and improvement. Increased performance of core libraries by over 3x and improved quality significantly

Founded a virtual reality and simulation company with classmates while in graduate school. Company is now one of the leading providers of 3D visualization and simulation solutions in the world. Was instrumental in securing the company's first two customers of CAVE based VR technology: The Naval Research Laboratories and General Motors. Developed the first version of the company's virtual reality software platform for sale to the Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA).

Served as lead architect and engineer for the integration of third part CAD/CAM files into the companies flagship visualization and editing product. Developed key visualization and data sharing components that enabled the company to win contracts with Boeing, Toyota and other large scale 3D visualization customers. Worked there as an independent contractor while in the PhD program at ISU.
