Supervisory Special Agent

Washington Dc-Baltimore Area

In August of 2019, I was promoted to the position of Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Vice Presidential Protective Division. My responsibilities include the physical protection of the Vice President, the planning and execution of security plans for the Vice President and the management of personnel within my section of the division. I currently supervise the Operations Section, which is responsible for the scheduling of all detail personnel and trip planning for all entities supporting the Vice President. We identify optimal manpower requirements for the successful completion of our mission and allocate personnel based on availability, which is subject to travel tempo, special events or global circumstances that affect our work force.

Aug 2019 - Dec 2022

Supervisory Special Agent

Laurel, Maryland, United States

As a Supervisory Special Agent in the Firearms Section I was responsible for the procurement of equipment and the management of the personnel within my section. I obtained my Contracting Officer Representative (COR) certification in 2018 and used those skills to manage an approximately four million dollar budget purchasing equipment used by personnel throughout the Secret Service. I completed numerous procurement packages for the purchase of equipment from existing contracts. I also established new contracts including a four year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract valued at $6.2 million. I also authored three interagency agreements allowing the Secret Service to purchase equipment from the Army, Coast Guard, and Navy. In regards to personnel management I led the hiring of numerous government civilians for the training center. I created position descriptions, interviewed potential candidates, and made hiring decisions based on all eligibility factors. I maintained performance evaluations on all personnel assigned as my subordinates.

Oct 2017 - Aug 2019

Supervisory Special Agent

Washington Dc-Baltimore Area

As an Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge of the Vice Presidential Protective Division, I served as a Shift Leader for most of the two years and three months I was assigned to the detail. My responsibilities included the physical protection of the Vice President as well as the scheduling, evaluating, mentoring, and career development of seventeen agents assigned to me. I balanced these administrative duties with an extensive travel schedule and rotating shift work. In calendar year 2016, the Vice President had one hundred twenty nine trips, both domestic and international. I learned to be flexible, creative, and persistent in completing all of my responsibilities while on the road. I improved my time management skills and discovered how best to communicate personal and professional issues with supervisors and subordinates as a first line supervisor. This assignment was a tremendous learning experience in balancing operational readiness, personnel management, and administrative duties in a constantly changing environment.

Jul 2015 - Oct 2017

Special Agent

Washington Dc-Baltimore Area

For almost two years, I was assigned as an instructor in the Protective Detail Training section at the Secret Service's Rowley Training Center. During this time, I was responsible for training agents transitioning from their criminal investigator assignments in a field office to their protection assignment on either the President's or Vice President's protective details. Our curriculum lasted four weeks and involved security planning for trips and events, physical protection training, firearms training, medical training, physical fitness training, and dynamic scenarios to test those concepts under stress. I rewrote sections of the curriculum to update current trends, tactics and methodology. I also worked with the Visual Information Branch to create new presentations replacing outdated slide shows with live action technology. I managed our section's budget and purchased equipment and training tools needed to fulfill our mission. I thoroughly enjoyed this assignment and felt it was very rewarding seeing the students grasp the concepts we were teaching.

Aug 2013 - Jul 2015

While assigned to the Columbia Field Office, I planned, organized and conducted complex investigations into the manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit currency, identity theft, credit card fraud and bank fraud. I coordinated with civilian fraud investigators, local law enforcement agencies, the victims of the crimes and the U.S. Attorney's Office in the issuance and service of subpoenas and warrants. I testified before Grand Juries as well as state and federal court. During this assignment, I was also trained as an Electronic Crimes Special Agent. I conducted forensic examinations of computers and digital media associated with crimes investigated by the Secret Service and our partner agencies. I obtained by A+ certification and attended several forensic courses to improve my proficiency with Encase, Forensic Toolkit and other analysis software.

Jul 2000 - Jun 2008

Charleston, South Carolina, United States

I lead an office of ten logistics planners developing and executing plans for the movement of approximately 1,500 people and over 2,000 tons of equipment in support of the C-17 cargo plane. I authored the revision of the Installation Deployment Plan which outlined new procedures to reduce the preparation time of deploying personnel. I also managed the purchase and maintenance of over $10 million worth of equipment to be used only during wartime scenarios. This program was used as a model and I was asked to present our management methods to other Air Force bases. I earned the Distinguished Graduate Award at the Contingency Wartime Planners Course, which had a class size of eighty people.

While stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base, I led a three person team supporting the logistical aspects of the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS), which was a $6 billion electronic communications system. Working with the contractor, we developed a repair facility, spare parts supply, and field training for users. I earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal for these efforts.
