- I was appointed Broadcast Technology lead for the integration of a newly acquired cultural brand which included the design and build of a new on-air studio, installation of new playout infrastructure, complex transmission path, final cutover, remedial integration and training- At the same time I was assigned Broadcast Technology lead for a separate business initiative to develop a Newsroom and Talkback radio network based out of our Hargreaves Street HQ. This involved scoping, detailed planning and execution of the Technology build, and the configuration of a Newsroom, voice booths and upgraded Talkback suite

St Mary'S Bay, Auckland, New Zealand

- I began this role intensively involved in multiple aspects of commissioning the new combined Auckland broadcast facility at Hargreaves street. This purpose-built facility incorporated a variety of state-of-the-art broadcast technologies and at the time was the largest single-site AES67 implementation in the southern hemisphere (based on IP stream count) The site combined 10 disparate stations into a single integrated entity, leveraging shared infrastructure for maximum efficiency, redundancy and performance. The team and work involved in this site were the subject of a subsequent NZ RBA "Associated Craft" award at the New Zealand Radio Awards in 2021- Other highlights involve the complete rebuild and upgrade of numerous regional hubs from legacy analog infrastructure to new, standardised AoIP plaforms and audio processing/distribution.

- Broadcast technology trends moving rapidly from analog to IP- Gained proficiency in multiple AoIP technologies such as Wheatstone, Axia and Lawo products, with a focus on Wheatnet and Ravenna-based workflows.- Combined baseband installation and maintenance skill sets (Krone, custom D-sub & XLR/TRS terminations & cabling) with new IP system requirements. E.g interfacing legacy studio infrastructure with AoIP routers.- Expanded knowledge of AoIP concepts to include PTP, routing, redundancy practices and detailed operation of crosspoint matrices and Lawo & Wheatstone audio routing system implementation.- Became an SME for Tieline OB equipment, heavily involved in the scoping and delivery of multiple national OBs, both vehicle and site based- Additional competencies in installation and operation of Orban audio processing hardware, Broadcast Bionic suite of products including Bionic Studio phone system and Bioncs Director automated video switcher (in conjunction with hardware video mixers like Blackmagic ATEM and software mixers like vMix)- Studio camera system implementations using a combination of SDI / NDI protocols across multiple studios, including retrofitting legacy studios to meet new online video requirements- Deployment and integration of Office AV products such as Crestron for video distribution, Dante for directional zoned audio and Brightsign digital signage

- Role allowed me to apply and develop existing and new skills- While working in general enterprise IT support, I quickly identified an aptitude and passion for working with broadcast and production technologies- Role allowed me to combine my interests in physical construction, information technology and audio engineering- Was fortunate to join the Engineering team at a time when multiple studio and linerooms were up for refurbishment. Being on the road with Senior Broadcast Engineers gaining skills in baseband and contemporary studio infrastructure was invaluable in developing a complete understanding of the broadcast chain- Learned how to support and repair legacy analog hardware such as Radio Systems Millenium consoles, various amplifiers, custom in-house audio routing equipment- Completed a large number of site builds at various locations around the country, involving hundreds of hours spent learning all aspects of Broadcast Engineering
