When I first arrived, I was given the responsibility of increasing the capacity and reducing the cost of the compressed air system. To accomplish this, I purchased a larger air compressor with a VFD to reduce wasted energy by only producing what was required. I also modified air piping to prevent 2 air compressors from fighting each other. The result was a 15% reduction in electricity usage for producing compressed air. I was also responsible for organizing and carrying out the install of replacement equipment for one of the aerosol lines. To prepare, I lead planning meetings, scheduled pre-outage activities with contractors, and oversaw install and start up activities.My next large project was to manage the design and build of over $12 million worth of aerosol production equipment built by international companies. Over the course of a year, I organized and conducted both benchmarking and FMEA activities to create equipment specifications that I brought to machine builders as a baseline for how we wanted the machine built. I then worked with them to overcome challenges, review and approve designs. I was tasked with identifying the severity of and finding solutions to product defects in the current manufacturing process. When the business decision was made to bring all production in-house, I was chosen to create the quality testing protocol for the product. This included determining relevant tests, researching and purchasing new test devices, and training quality technicians in how to use them. I also spent many hours on the production floor during start-up to assist with the set up of the line to ensure that the highest quality product was being manufactured.When internal production of injected molded components began at one of Rust-Oleum's facilities, I planned, conducted, and reported on qualification activities for the components. This meant learning the injection molding process and working closely with product designers and plant technicians to modify the procedure to get the desired output. Show less

As the first mechanical intern that Norfolk Southern had in the Chicago area of their territory, I spent my time assisting the Mechanical Supervisors with their day to day tasks related to the maintenance of locomotives and rail cars. This included planning, entering payroll, visiting different sites. During my short time their, I was responsible for going through general training for new employees when they came onboard.
