Business Development Director
As Business Development Director for St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County, I develop, manage and coordinate diverse mission-related earned income projects in a dynamic and rapidly evolving organization. As Lane County’s largest nonprofit human services organization, we provide social services and affordable housing for vulnerable populations. We derive the majority of funding for our social service mission from the operation of multiple retail thrift and recycling businesses. In the course of developing and implementing the agency’s economic development projects, I build the framework of policies, processes and procedures that the organization uses to achieve its economic growth and sustainability objectives. In addition, I:• develop and maintain an inventory of critical path projects and provide updates on project status, changes in schedule, and scope to the Executive Director and Deputy Director.• research and initiate new revenue-generating opportunities.• analyze the financial viability of current and past projects.• oversee and nurture expansion of the agency’s partnerships with other social enterprises across the country, under the Cascade Alliance umbrella.• plan and execute quick-turnaround projects.• assist with research, writing and systems-development projects related to overall agency organization, structure and health.• lead and manage Business Development Department staff.
Special Projects Coordinator
As Special Projects Coordinator, I coordinated diverse ongoing programs and new projects in a mature nonprofit agency, deeply embedded in both providing social services and operating businesses to support the social services. This job required strong analytical skills, self-motivation and problem-solving strategies across a diverse range. The purpose of this role was to support the Deputy Director in the development and implementation of the agency’s projects and to ensure that projects moved forward in a timely fashion.
Exercise Planner / Logistics Trainer
As an exercise planner and logistics trainer for the 189th Combined Arms Training Brigade, I coordinated the support of collective training events for our US Army Reserve and National Guard partners. I was selected as lead planner for support of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s annual training, located at sites across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. I led the efforts of a multi-disciplinary, multi-echelon staff to develop a training support package for over 3,000 soldiers that met budget and staffing constraints. I regularly briefed the brigade commander and other leaders on exercise preparation, providing them with the synthesis of complex information necessary for sound decision-making. Lastly, as one of the brigade’s senior logisticians, I was responsible for teaching, coaching and mentoring my Reserve Component colleagues during select training events on the planning and execution of efficient, effective logistics and sustainment operations.
Reserve Component Partnership Manger
As the partnership officer for an 11-battalion Combined Arms Training Brigade, I managed a program that enabled 192 separate training and partnership engagements, ensuring that six divisions, 28 brigades and over 50,000 soldiers from the Army Reserve Component achieved their directed level of readiness. I was counted on to quickly and accurately interpret policy and higher headquarters guidance, synthesizing information in order to advise the brigade commander on the partnership common operating picture. My role also involved ensuring the correct prioritization and alignment of brigade training resources, while identifying and mitigating training support friction points.
Chief Operations Officer, Logistics Support Battalion
Serving as the battalion's primary operations officer and leading a staff of seven, I was the commander's principal advisor in the areas of planning and training. Through careful preparation, execution, and assessment of unit operations, I enabled the commander to accurately visualize the operating environment and to make informed judgments. Responsible for the collection, analysis and transformation of information into knowledge, I was able to develop viable and timely courses of action in accordance with the commander's intent. In order to further common understanding, we prepared and published battalion orders and standard operating procedures, in coordination with higher headquarters. During the culminating event of my tenure as operations officer, my team planned and executed a month-long field exercise in support of the 17th Field Artillery Brigade. Included in this effort was a 1000-mile round-trip, 40-vehicle tactical convoy spanning Washington, Oregon and Idaho. During this time, we increased the battalion’s capacity to sustain a complex brigade field exercise by seamlessly integrating three units external to the organization into the overall logistical support structure, allowing 100 new leaders and soldiers to provide augmented medical, transportation and maintenance support.
Director (Commander), Eugene, Or Army Recruiting Company
As commander of the Eugene recruiting company, I led a team of 28 non-commissioned officers to identify service opportunities for future soldiers across 30,000 square miles of central and western Oregon. I prepared the ground for successful operations, focusing recruiting efforts in accordance with careful analysis of rapidly changing metrics and conditions. I developed and implemented systems to efficiently manage company personnel resources and marketing budgets, resulting in key metrics improvements during both years of my command. For example, we achieved 225% and 93%, respectively, of our FY 16 Army Reserve and Regular Army recruiting goals. We were also recognized as the battalion’s number one company for enlisting the most highly qualified people. Challenged with increasing the number of enlistments in first quarter FY 17, I rallied my team around an outreach plan that enabled the company to meet its assigned mission over the following quarter. Most importantly, I communicated openly with community leaders, educators and families, and ensured that we operated within the highest ethical and professional standards, enhancing the reputation of the Army in our area of operations.
Maintenance Manager, Logistics Sustainment Brigade
As the sustainment brigade's primary maintenance officer, I led a staff of six senior maintenance advisors. We mentored and consulted with subordinate units in two major commands and six brigades, comprising approximately 80,000 soldiers, and achieved 97% available equipment rating for air, ground, and waterborne equipment across the Army Pacific Theater. I provided the brigade commander with the current maintenance status of critical fleet equipment, and nurtured relationships with external support agencies and senior leaders that facilitated expeditious repairs. In order to improve the skills of junior officers and non-commissioned officers, we also developed maintenance management courses that improved the team's ability to operate in accordance with Army regulations and standard operating procedures.
Director (Commander), Logistics Support Company
As commander of the logistics support company for a high-tempo construction and combat engineering battalion, I led a 100-soldier team providing supply, transportation and maintenance support to 13 customer units. While in command, I exceeded 95% compliance with mandatory training metrics and increased the number of personnel available to deploy by 35%. Deployed to Naval Base Guam, we assumed the role of a Navy Construction Battalion (Seabee) logistical support company, a mission never before undertaken by an Army unit. Nevertheless, we implemented an unfamiliar Navy equipment management system and were commended for exceeding the standards set by previous units assigned to that role.
Deputy Logistics Director, Engineer Brigade
I served as the deputy logistics officer for the 130th Engineer Brigade, responsible for supporting two combat engineer battalions, composed of over 1,800 soldiers, operating across the Pacific theater. As such, I assisted the senior brigade logistician in providing leadership and guidance to twelve personnel of different specialties as we worked to sustain engineer operations. I played an integral role in the planning and oversight of maintenance, supply, budget and transportation efforts, and maximized efficient use of limited resources. For example, I utilized data-analysis, standard operating procedures, and higher headquarter prioritization to anticipate supply requirements for an 1,800-soldier unit, ensuring that 100% of personnel deploying in support of overseas operations received the most up-to-date equipment. At the same time, I spearheaded special projects, such as leading unit charitable fundraising for the 2013 Combined Federal Campaign. This resulted in recognition for the most charitable pledges made, by the highest percentage of donors, of all of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command's units across the Pacific region.
Student: Army Logistics University
During this time, I attended the Combined Logistics Captain's Career Course (CLC3), during which I partook of advanced training in company leadership, operational planning functions, and multifunctional logistics. Designed to train officers from three separate logistics branches in a common curriculum, this rigorous program of study focused on the integration of supply, transportation and maintenance services to support ground combat operations.
Assistant Operations Officer, Logistics Support Battalion
In this position, I served as the assistant operations officer for the 210th Brigade Support Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The unit consisted of a headquarters company, distribution company, field maintenance company, medical company, and four forward support companies comprising over 800 soldiers. I worked closely with the primary battalion operations officer and other battalion staff officers to synchronize tactical operations, and was responsible to manage the tactical operations center during field exercises. I also helped to oversee the training management program, ensuring challenging, realistic and safe training for our soldiers. This included spearheading the first two iterations of the "Commando Provider Challenge"; a tactical, logistics support-focused event that challenged our soldiers technical and tactical skills, built esprit de corps, and improved the professionalism of the organization.
Deputy Director (Executive Officer), Headquarters Company
As executive officer of the headquarters company, 710th Brigade Support Battalion, I was second-in-command, responsible for all company operations, to include unit readiness, training, soldier welfare and overall mission accomplishment. As the primary action officer for company supply and maintenance, I managed over 1,500 pieces of equipment, including twenty-four vehicles, valued at over $7,700,000. I acted as the company unit movement officer for deployment to the Fort Polk, LA training area, and meticulously tracked and accounted for the round-trip movement of all company equipment and personnel. While deployed to the training area, I took on the job of base defense officer-in-charge, wrote the standard operating procedure for company area security, and managed all aspects of personnel, training and equipment.
Warehouse Accountable Officer / Platoon Leader
As platoon leader and accountable officer, I led warehouse operations for the Third Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Tenth Mountain Division, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), followed by garrison warehouse operations at Fort Drum, NY. While deployed to Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan, I led over 40 soldiers, noncommissioned officers and contracted civilians who managed the requisition, receipt, storage and issue of 5,758 separate pieces of stock, with value in excess of $38,000,000. Within one month of taking over, I had implemented best practices that improved inventory accuracy from 70% to 99%, even as the warehouse grew to be the third largest in Afghanistan. Simultaneously, I improved relationships with the local national workforce while enforcing contracting policy requirements, and was thus able to save the government over $50,000 in labor costs.
Logistics Coordinator, Logistics Support Battalion
I led the general supply section in the support operations office of the Third Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Tenth Mountain Division. I was responsible for overseeing sustainment operations during Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) through direct support to the brigade's combat battalions and back-up support to subordinate logistics support units. I provided management and accountability for sustainment operations of all classes of supply, with an emphasis on water, fuel and repair part distribution. I developed numerous standard operating procedures and tracking mechanisms for supply operations in theater and thus enabled the timely movement of over $40,000,000 of supplies from Bagram Airfield to Forward Operating Bases. These efforts resulted in our brigade warehouse having the shortest customer wait time of any warehouse in theater.
Officer Candidate/Trainee
I completed training at the US Army Officer Candidate School (OCS), followed by attendance at the Quartermaster Officer Basic Leader Course. There I learned the basics of unit leadership, movement, maintenance, organizational supply, tactical logistics, aerial delivery, fuel and water distribution, and mortuary affairs operations. The course of study also required me to focus special attention on training management, automated logistics systems and distribution management systems, and my efforts resulted in me being named to the Commandant's List.
Training Manager
I served as the Training Manager for 45 soldiers and 21 civilians in support of the largest seven-satellite communications terminal complex in Europe. I was responsible to track, report and verify personnel actions and training data while developing and implementing operations orders on behalf of the commander. I did so while ensuring the efficient management of available resources, while coordinating with outside agencies for support as required.
Shift Supervisor, Satellite Communications Station
I served as the shift supervisor in the largest seven-satellite communications earth terminal in Europe, valued at over $45,000,000. I led a team that provided critical strategic and tactical satellite communications connectivity in support of Department of Defense, US Army Europe and NATO missions and contingencies, with greater than 99% reliability. As assistant safety officer for the terminal, I successfully completed 40 hours of OSHA outreach training, and was responsible for implementing programs that ensured the safe operation of all station equipment. I also performed duties as a squad leader while teaching, mentoring and leading five soldiers.
Satellite Communications Operator/Maintainer
My first assignment in the Army was as a satellite communications operator/maintainer in the largest seven-satellite communications earth terminal in Europe, valued at over $45,000,000. I helped to provide critical strategic and tactical satellite communications connectivity in support of Department of Defense, US Army Europe and NATO missions and contingencies.
Trainee, Satellite Communications
I completed Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for work as a US Army Satellite Communications Operator/Maintainer.
