I was sworn in as the Delta County Prosecutor on June 5, 2018. I retired on April 11, 2022. I enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with law enforcement, the unfortunate victims of crime and the community in helping keep Delta County safe. I took this responsibility as a prosecutor seriously. I utilized the skills I have acquired during my career as a trial attorney and administrator to build a prosecutor's office that was and is professional and responsive to the needs of law enforcement, victims and the community. As a representative of the People of the State of Michigan for over 33 years, I can assure the Delta County community that I applied my skills, and I was assertive in my efforts. It was an honor to be given the opportunity to represent this beautiful community.

As a former Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Muskegon County, Brett Gardner brings 29 years of experience trying some of the most serious and high profile cases in the county, with several receiving national coverage. He successfully tried one of the first social security disability cases in the State of Michigan where the disability was Alzheimer's Disease. This help set the precedent that paved the way for other Alzheimer claimants by providing recognition that Alzheimer's is a truly debilitating disease that mandates coverage under the Social Security Disabilities Act. As a community leader, Brett Gardner has built quality relationships not only within the local legal system but with area community leaders throughout the State of Michigan. With experience representing clients and victims in cases involving veterans benefits , insanity defenses, drug related issues, murder and many more, Brett Gardner Law is the firm to fight and win when justice deserves it.

Taught a criminal process class and went on to establish Cooley Law School's Cold Case Project where student had the opportunity to review real cold cases with the goal of bringing justice to communities that have not yet received it.

With a trial career focused on violent crime, Brett Gardner achieved countless successful verdicts in cases including murder, criminal sexual conduct, armed robberies and home invasions. Notably, Brett established himself in 1989 as an expert in the area of handling insanity defense cases with a landmark trial that was ultimately decided by the Supreme Court of Michigan. In addition, he advised all area police agencies on matters of criminal law and represented the city of Muskegon on criminal city attorney matters. Further, Brett mentored and advised a staff of 16+ prosecutors, several of whom have gone on to hold elected positions and begin their own firms.
