I was born and raised in cold and rainy southwest Portland, Oregon. The brutal combination of a young, unathletic build with the wet climate did not conduce a passion for traditional sports. When I was eight years old, I took up rock climbing. I balanced my time between climbing, golf, basketball, and football for the next few years, but climbing was what I truly cared about. While I was not the physically strongest competitor, I had a knack for technique, fundamentals, and attention to detail – three things that have continued to carry through all parts of my life. After years of rigorous training and dieting, the previously unathletic kid who failed at traditional sports found his way onto the United States Youth National Team and competed at international events for three years before leaving for college.My problem-solving aptitude coupled with a love of the outdoors is what brought me to Colorado to study mechanical engineering. My time in competitive climbing not only taught me dedication and sacrifice but most importantly it showed me that I excel at problem-solving. Winning climbing competitions is not a matter of strength, but rather a question of who can solve the puzzle most efficiently. To this day, I still find myself approaching challenges as if they were a climbing competition.Years later and in the absence of competitive climbing, I still busy myself problem-solving in outdoor climbing, golfing, and work. I am currently living in the Carlsbad area working my dream job for TaylorMade Golf in product development of metalwoods.
