I worked in the Martins Lab in the Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute (IBIRI) as a Research Associate. I was responsible for the maintenance and health of our extensive mouse colony, including 20 separate genetic lines, and the management of the lab's upkeep.

I investigated the neuroprotective interaction between A53E and G51D SNCA mutations and endosulfan-induced toxicity in an OLN-93 model of Multiple System Atrophy, utilizing sterile techniques including: MTT, SYTOX Green Cell Death assay, CM-H2DCFDA ROS assay, JC-1 and TMRE mitochondrial membrane potential assays, caspase-3 and -9 activity assays, immunoblotting, and fluorescent microscopy. Laboratory safety was carefully attended to. Not only was I involved in effectively following assays and collecting data, but also interpreting the data and presenting them in an effective and impactful manner including through papers, oral presentations, and chalk talks.
