About Brian Edwards
I am an EMS Chief with a rural Minnesota EMS system, operating just south of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. We serve a population of over 40,000 residents across 284 square miles, in parts of four counties. Our staff of over forty five paramedics and EMT's will respond to over 4000 requests for service in 2024, with over 3000 patient encounters. Our agency also provides contracted and ad hoc EMS education.My background includes over thirty years in EMS systems, primarily smaller rural systems. I currently serve as a volunteer firefighter. I was a tactical paramedic for fifteen years and a crisis negotiator for ten years on three different SWAT teams. I worked on an as-needed basis as a medical unit leader trainee for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, Minnesota Interagency Coordination Center. I volunteered as a team member for a FEMA Type 3 Incident Management Team based in the Twin Cities area, with multiple ICS courses completed. I have worked as a contract instructor for active killer/hostile event response, and to this day I teach public safety agencies how to work together to manage multiple casualty hostile events.
