Brian Irwin is a freelance writer and photographer based in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. A family and travel physician, Irwin has spent the last decade exploring the natural world and publishing his impressions. From the local Mount Washington to the spires of Patagonia, from the peaks of the Alps to the glaciers of Alaska, his adventures have been exhibited in a variety of national newspapers, magazines and medical journals. His organic, humanistic approach and realistic style have won him numerous national awards for both his writing and photography.Irwin is the New England Field Editor for FLY FISHERMAN magazine, a LOOP USA Ambassador, a member of the RIO Prostaff Team and a consulting editor for the Bonefish & Tarpon Journal. Some of his select past and present affiliations include The Boston Globe, Miami Herald, Alpinist, Rock and Ice, Climbing, Powder, Freeskier, Couloir, Backcountry, the Mountain Gazette, Canoe and Kayak, Mountain Magazine, The Journal of Wilderness and Environmental Medicine, The Journal of Travel Medicine, The Drake, Fly Fish America, The Fly Fish Journal, American Family Physician, Emergency Medicine, New Hampshire Magazine, Appalachia and many others. A National Fellow of The Explorers Club, Irwin also currently crafts a weekly health column in his local newspaper, the Conway Daily Sun.When not writing or capturing images he is active as a search and rescue volunteer on two local rescue teams and works as a ski patroller at New Hampshire’s Cranmore Mountain Resort. He is also a founding member of the Board of Directors of the White Mountain Swift Water Rescue Team.His home base is in Tamworth, NH.
