Operations Manager - Genuine Parts

Manitowoc, Wisconsin, United States

As the Area Leader I am responsible for the day to day operations of our warranty and repair parts division. When I started in Genuine Parts our open order book needed some help due to recently being moved from Ripon to Manitowoc. By implementing some lean principles I was able to help Alliance reduce overtime by 50% and reduce the open order book by 63% in 7 months. Now that we have a clearer direction and are able to work on some projects and improvements we have started addressing some forklift safety and work flow issues within the plant along with the approval of an essential role, a team leader 2. The team leader 2 is responsible for standardizing the warehouse and the leader roles. This person has been learning Standard Work, 5s, SMED, and other lean principles and putting them into action. I coach this person directly and am responsible for their overall development. The safety and quality improvements have been great so far, but the best is yet to come.

Sub-Assembly Group Leader

Manitowoc, Wisconsin, United States

As the sub-assembly group leader I was responsible for ensuring that my team achieved their daily and weekly schedules as well as assisting with making process improvements. I guided the team leads in the development of their standard work and ensured we adhered to the company 5s standards. I worked with our engineers on safety and productivity initiatives, increasing production and continuing to drive waste out of the value stream. I worked with scheduling to optimize productive uptime and utilized my background to strengthen our group leaders. I taught them about TAKT time, cycle time, and how to leverage them to ensure we maximize our utilization of our team members. I helped to find creative solutions to safety and quality problems not only in my area but plant wide.

Plastics Group Leader

Manitowoc, Wisconsin, United States

I started at Alliance as the 3rd shift Group Leader in Plastics. When I started we were just beginning to set up the Plastic department. I was responsible on my shift to be the powered industrial vehicle trainer and worked with the first shift Group Leader to begin setting up the standards within our area. As more injection molding machines and welders came to the Manitowoc location I became responsible for scheduling the production in the area. I built a spreadsheet that allowed the team to run all of our product on a three week cycle at 90% OEE. This allowed the team to leave machines down for absenteeism and schedule PM's in a manner that didn't interfere with production or people. In 2022 the team was able to achieve 92% OEE using my scheduling methods. I was also responsible for maintaining the staffing level and skill set on our shift. I worked closely with Human Resources to ensure that decisions that were made followed the union contract. I also ensured that I communicated with the Union on any issues I felt we might need to address in the near future so I could ensure we were aligned on how I was handling the situation and there were no surprises for either party.

General Operator

Manitowoc, Wi

I started at GKN as a temporary worker through Kelly Services and during my time at GKN I excelled in my different roles. I always looked for ways to expand my knowledge and understanding of products and processes and made every attempt to pass this knowledge along to the operators that would find this information useful. I had spent 4 years in leadership roles while at GKN and as I continued to grow in those roles my employees grew with me. I was a KATA learner during my time there and am a Flight 1 graduate from GKN's Lean for Team Leaders program. As part of the program I used practical problem solving tools to find the root cause of problems and I also used statistical analysis to assist higher level maintenance mechanics and tooling technicians in finding the root cause of an issue. My time as a KATA learner taught me the value of taking small steps and utilizing PDCA cycles to achieve and sustain continuous improvement. I was responsible for completing payroll every week for each of my employees as well as yearly performance appraisals and utilization of S.M.A.R.T. goals to drive employee improvement and performance.
