Engagement FellowUpstate: A Center For Design, Research, And Real Estate Jun 2013 - Aug 2014Syracuse, New York AreaWhile at UPSTATE, I was responsible for creating the visual representation of several research projects that the nonprofit was conducting including a study focusing on the future of the i-81 Viaduct in Syracuse, New York. As it reaches the end of its useful life, i81 must be replaced and we were creating visuals to propel the conversation forward and avoid the encampment of groups arguing for a cut and dry decision at the expense of a more nuanced solution. To help to spark conversation amongst communities that would other wise not have an opportunity to communicate about the issues surrounding the i-81 viaduct, UPSTATE also ran a design competition to create an Urban Rest Stop and art show. I acted as the coordinator of the contest and the construction process of the winning entry. I also designed the public face of the contest and promotional materials for the final event. While in the position I also acted as a liaison and TA for a student group that was designing a city park field house in the Near West Side of syracuse. UPSTATE funded the project and I was responsible for making sure it was staying on budget. I worked with my counterpart in another nonprofit to connect the students with the community they were designing for and instructed the students on the proper way to create construction drawing sets and designs that would ultimately be constructed in the park.
