I like to break things and then fix them. The aspects of my career that I’m proudest of revolve around surmounting obstacles that no one else would challenge. I have a talent for looking at a system and discovering flaws that can be improved. I grew up around technology. My father was a 33-year veteran of IBM and there was always some piece of equipment in the basement to tinker with. I fondly recall countless hours spent in front of an IBM 5140 laughably titled “Portable”. I dutifully lugged this (seemingly) 145-pound beast to the local library so I could be the only 4th grader with a typed book report. One constant for me with technology has been seeing amazing and untapped potential. A lifelong struggle and passion of mine has been to make things work better. That has meant everything from creating a better interface for transmitter remote controls to removing a few mouse clicks from the accounting department’s workflows. My current position as Director of Integrated Technologies has been a proving ground. For decades, the universe of broadcast engineering has been at odds with the universe of information technology. My role has been to merge these two opposing realms to create broadcast systems that function more reliably, more efficiently, and more cheaply. I’ve had the opportunity to develop solutions and manage projects that span across the country, across calendar years and with seven-figure budgets. When given challenges with tight constraints, I’ve been able to work within boundaries, or find a creative way to redraw those boundaries. As a long-time NBA fan and a one-time heavy metal drummer, I love watching the pieces come together in new and interesting ways. As a parent of two energetic and intelligent children, I love teaching knowledge and watching it be used in unexpected ways!
