Summer Legislative InternDelegate Debra Davis Jun 2020 - Aug 2020Charles County, MdAs a summer intern, I ran point on multiple projects in the office. This included coordinating the distribution of thousands of books for families in Charles County during the COVID-19 pandemic. This effort required immense planning and preparation, ranging from getting a large shipment of books, coordinating the volunteers to hand them out, and distributing them at Charles County meal sites. I also assisted District 28 constituents with COVID-19 related casework, including in seeking unemployment benefits. This involved helping maintain the office email and phone system and following up with constituents that contacted the office and assisting them with their needs.Finally, I conducted policy research and pushed our office to endorse creating voting rights for the Charles County student school board member. This initiative was successful and was made law in July 2021.

Research FellowDelegate Vaughn Stewart Jun 2019 - Feb 2020Montgomery County, MdI headed up research for legislation introduced during the 2020 session of the Maryland General Assembly, especially the Social Housing Act of 2020 (HB1149). My research fields included looking into housing policy across the United States and from Vienna, Austria. I helped prepared testimony and wrote other forms of persuasive writing in order to pass progressive housing legislation. In this effort, I also helped bring multiple groups together, from affordable housing developers, advocacy groups for people experiencing homelessness, and county housing authorities.
