After a successful student teaching experience, I was hired as a full-time social studies teacher at BCC. I teach Honors National, State, and Local Government, and AP United States Government. Daily, I engage in problem solving, honing an ability to adjust plans with limited notice and maintain composure in stressful, complicated situations. I am tasked with communicating with a variety of diverse stakeholders including students, parents, and colleagues daily to maintain a positive, equitable, and safe learning environment. I serve as Advisor & Coach of the Mock Trial Team and as a Union Building Representative for the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA).

Long-term substitute teacher in B-CC's engineering program, stepping in for a teacher who left before the end of the school year. As a long-term substitute I was responsible for classroom management and for guiding the class, including by helping bring an ongoing project to a successful conclusion.

I was a student teacher at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Montgomery County Public Schools. As a student teacher, I completed a full four-month take-over of two periods each of IB World History and AP Government. Cooperating Teachers: Mrs. Stephanie Rizas & Mr. John Zehner.

I spent my Fall 2022 semester at Westland Middle School in Bethesda, MD. I was embedded in 6th and 8th grade classrooms, including Historical Inquiries in Global Humanities (HIGH) and US History 8. These classes included an Autism Resource Services classroom, and gifted and talented cohort classes. I worked to assist the students as well as evaluate student work ranging from practice assignments to high-accountability tasks including essays and exit tickets. I designed and implemented engaging lessons using teaching strategies such as structured academic controversies and four corners, all while being supervised by my cooperating teacher and American University coach. Additionally, I became more familiar with classroom technologies and student data analysis, giving me skills that will aid me in my future endeavors as a classroom teacher.Cooperating Teacher: Mrs. Melissa Daly (Resource Teacher)

As a lead teacher at a summer camp for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, I created a humanities curriculum centering around knowledge of the legal system for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This involved conducting three separate classroom mock trials from beginning to end, which successfully illustrated the importance of the legal process and the skills of lawyering to middle school summer camp students.Additionally, I helped facilitate a successful field trip to the law firm Allen & Overy in Downtown Washington D.C, including by preparing 60 students to present their mock trial cases and arguments to real lawyers.

I was part of a research team headed by Prof. Amaarah DeCuir, Ed.D. Through this team, I helped facilitate research on equity in local school districts, including through creating a research project using critical discourse analysis.

As a summer intern with the National Children's museum, I worked within a diverse team to research, plan, and facilitate engaging STEAM activities for all museum guests. Additionally, I planned lessons for open-ended, informal activities on the museum floor and for longer-term programming in spaces such as the Tinkerer's Studio. I also facilitated activities such as Scribble Bots and STEAM Storytime, interacting with at minimum 20 guests and families per session.

Beginning from the start of college to the beginning of my teacher internships, I was involved in after-care at Janney Elementary School. I expertly supervised classes of first, second, third, and fourth graders, ranging from 12 to 20 students. Along the way, I was able to build relationships with students by providing a welcoming environment for after-care activities. I worked to support the emotional and academic needs of all of my students through indoor and outdoor activities, including games, arts, and crafts. I learned how to practice healthy classroom management by addressing the individual needs of the students, while ensuring stable and enjoyable programming for all of our families.

Through this Federal Work Study position, I worked in schools across the District of Columbia, including H.D Woodson High School and Kelly Miller Middle School. I supported struggling students with classwork through push-in and pull-out instruction, including working in small groups and by assisting a classroom teacher with instruction. I was able to build strong relationships with students and staff, both before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic and in a variety of modalities. Through this position, I gained experience in leading instruction, academic intervention, and building relationships with students.

As a summer intern, I ran point on multiple projects in the office. This included coordinating the distribution of thousands of books for families in Charles County during the COVID-19 pandemic. This effort required immense planning and preparation, ranging from getting a large shipment of books, coordinating the volunteers to hand them out, and distributing them at Charles County meal sites. I also assisted District 28 constituents with COVID-19 related casework, including in seeking unemployment benefits. This involved helping maintain the office email and phone system and following up with constituents that contacted the office and assisting them with their needs.Finally, I conducted policy research and pushed our office to endorse creating voting rights for the Charles County student school board member. This initiative was successful and was made law in July 2021.

I headed up research for legislation introduced during the 2020 session of the Maryland General Assembly, especially the Social Housing Act of 2020 (HB1149). My research fields included looking into housing policy across the United States and from Vienna, Austria. I helped prepared testimony and wrote other forms of persuasive writing in order to pass progressive housing legislation. In this effort, I also helped bring multiple groups together, from affordable housing developers, advocacy groups for people experiencing homelessness, and county housing authorities.
