About Brian Smith
I entered flight school after feeling called to become a missionary pilot. The plan was to pursue this until the time of my retirement from the Post Office in 2012. In the meantime, while working and going to aviation school, I felt called to join D.I.R.T. (Disaster International Relief Team). After serving on the team for a couple of years, the Lord called me to the leadership of the team. I have been serving in this capacity now for several years. Our team has traveled to Nepal, Honduras, Guatemala several times, Haiti and the Dominican Republic several times after the earthquake, and Peru. The DIRT team has become involved with distributing Sawyer Water Filters to these countries, as well as teaching their use and maintenance and general hygiene for health and safety. We are also involved in CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) through the local Fire Department. We have become involved in teaching this CERT training to Fire Departments and local officials in some of the aforementioned countries, and have been asked to come to Costa Rica to teach it to the Fire Departments and local officials there. Before joining DIRT, I went to Japan, Nicaragua, and Germany on construction missionary trips. I have also been involved with Samaritan's Purse Missionary Trips. They are a national Disaster Relief Organization.
