Head Strength And Conditioning Coordinator, Assistant Football, Head Powerlifting Coach
The powerlifting program at Fossil Ridge was basically non-existent before I arrived, with only 4 lifters on the team, no culture to speak of, no equipment, and a total of 3 regional qualifiers in the school’s 25-year history. I was given the job of head coach without many expectations of success. I began recruiting athletes and focused on creating a positive team culture that was encouraging and focused on consistent, gradual improvement. I designed personalized workouts for each athlete, held them accountable and tracked progress, and upgraded our equipment ($300,000+ of upgrades). By year 4 the program had grown to 85+ athletes, and advanced 33 athletes to regionals, including a school record 19 in 2022. As a football coach, I coach linebackers and run several of our special teams units. As the head powerlifting coach, I manage 85+ athletes and our budget. I create individualized workouts, oversee all paperwork and required materials, and successfully guide our program.
Esl Social Studies Teacher
Fossil Ridge High School identified that many of our students that failed the STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) test did not speak English as a first language. They created a new role for me where they moved all ESL (English Second Language) students into my classroom, with the objective to increase their passing rate above a 50%. I wrote new curricula for all three subjects, designed dynamic lessons to engage all learner types, and closely monitored their progress. My students surpassed expectations when 100% of them passed the 2022 STAAR test, a higher rate than the school’s general population.
Mathematics Teacher
I've taught remedial algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, math models, precalculus, and college algebra. I have written curriculum for all levels of high school math, and developed a functional scope and sequence each year.
Defensive Coordinator And Math Teacher
Ranchview High School had a wave of low performing students entering 9th grade. The administrators gave me a group of students who were very low academically and assigned me the task of improving their 58% passing rate on the STAAR test. I modified our curriculum to meet our kids at their current level, designed unique lessons to fit their needs, and consistently guided the kids with patience throughout the year. At the end of the year, I was happy to see that 96% of my students passed the 2018 STAAR test.
Linebackers And Head Track Coach
o Successfully authored a grant for students to be provided with IXL, an online supplemental instructional tool.o Wrote curriculum and created the scope and sequence for the geometry team. Redesigned the curriculum to include imbedded technology, including QR code links to instructional videos on each assignment and supplemental links to IXL for additional learning methods on each concept. o Worked with the geometry team to create and analyze common assessments.• Head Girls Track Coacho I took over a program at Arlington that was in shambles with zero victories in 11 years, finishing near the bottom at the district meet the year before I arrived. The previous head coach quit during the season, and the negative culture and lack of leadership drove many girls away. I was asked to take over and turn the program around. I started out by recruiting athletes from all around the school, and creating a positive culture focused on gradual and consistent progress. I held athletes accountable and provided constant feedback. We went on to win our first track meet in 12 years. At the district meet the team improved in 15 of the 16 events from the previous year, and nearly doubled our point total. We set the school record for athletes advancing to the Area Meet with 15 girls.
Regional Director
o Voted Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) Regional Director for Region 3 by my coaching peers.o Collected data from every powerlifting meet in Region 3, which is the largest region in the state. It includes all high schools from the metroplex to Louisiana, from Oklahoma to the north down to Houston in the south. o Managed the THSWPA website, posted results weekly, and communicated with over 150 head coaches in the region to discuss rule changes, meet requirements, and handle any issues that arose anywhere in the region. o I was responsible for hosting the regional powerlifting meet for all levels (1A-6A) in my region, which required a great deal of organization and communication. Some of the planning for the event included booking the venue, finding vendors and business sponsors, hiring judges and workers, planning coaches, judges, and workers meetings, crowd control, security, concessions, and distribution of a college scholarship for seniors. o The event was attended by 90+ coaches, 275 lifters, 750+ spectators and generated over $20,000 of revenue.
Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, And Head Powerlifting
o The year before I arrived at Crandall, the defense finished dead last in the district in yards and points allowed, and the team missed the playoffs. The job laid before me was to improve the defense using many of the same players, and all the same defensive coaches. I began by changing our scheme to fit the skill set of our players. To accomplish this, I spent extensive time training the staff in the new defense and developed a gradual installation and teaching progression for the kids to ensure they were able to execute the new defense. Our unit improved from worst the year before to become the #1 ranked defense in the district and won a playoff game for the first time in 12 years. In powerlifting our boys finished 3rd in the region, the highest finish in school history.
Defensive Coordinator And Head Powerlifting Coach
• Teacher: Algebra 1, Geometry, Exit Level TAKSo Wills Point was under state scrutiny for a low graduation rate before I arrived and were particularly concerned by a wave of seniors that had not passed the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test at any grade level (6th through 11th) and were not on pace to graduate. The Principal and Superintendent asked me to pioneer a new class designed to catch these students up academically and help them to pass the TAKS so they could graduate. I designed a new curriculum that blended basic, foundational Algebra skills with Geometry. In each unit, I closely monitored their progress, and adjusted my pacing to fit their unique needs. I was able to get 94% of the students to pass the Exit Level TAKS test for the first time in their scholastic career, a significantly higher passing rate than the general population of the school.• Defensive Coordinator for 2012 District Champion football teamo Coached District Defensive MVP and Defensive Newcomer of the Year• Head Boys and Girls Powerliftingo Voted THSWPA Regional Director for Region 3 by peers.o Took over a program with 3 total powerlifters and no recent success. We went on to win our last 12 meets in a row and had a school record 20 lifters qualify for the regional meet. Our girls team finished 3rd in the region and 3rd in the state, both the highest finishes in school history. Two lifters set state records that still stand today, a decade later. • Recognized before the school board for excellence in my job performance.• Appeared in the newspaper 6 times in articles highlighting the success of my programs.
Co-Defensive Coordinator, Assistant Soccer, And Assistant Powerlifting Coach
• Teacher: Algebra 1, Geometry, Sophomore TAKS, Precalculus• Led Forney’s math department in TAKS gains for four consecutive years• When I arrived at Forney the math department was receiving special attention due to its low TAKS scores. To help raise the scores, I was asked to pioneer a new class (called Math Lab) comprised only of students who had a 0% passing rate on their math TAKS tests. These students came to me during their sophomore year, with the intention of me getting them back on track to pass the Exit Level TAKS their junior year so they could graduate. I wrote new curriculum that addressed gaps in their algebra skills, and pre-taught difficult concepts at a slower pace in Math Lab before they encountered them in their Geometry class. This solved problems before they arose, and helped to build confidence in the kids. In the three years I taught this class, my students were able to improve from a 0% passing rate to a 72%, 80%, and 82% passing rate, with 93% of students showing improvement in their TAKS scores.
