Mainspring Energy is a manufacturer of local, scalable, dispatchable, fuel flexible power generation equipment, based in Menlo Park, CA. As Director of Wholesale Market Development I lead our team to conduct technical evaluations, evaluate market intelligence and educate external stakeholders to break down barriers to access Mainspring's technology. Often my work entails evaluating market access, interconnection and valuation for traditional and clean utility scale generation, transmission, non-wire solutions, green fuels, distributed energy resources, energy storage, demand response and other technologies/applications. My evaluations leverage knowledge of RTOs, FERC, NERC, State and local policy. I often conduct 1:1 and small group interviews and discussions to learn from policy makers, industry executives and large energy customers. Finally, I prepare written reports, slides, and spreadsheet analysis and influence organizational decision-making via regular virtual and in-person presentations to senior management.

I led our PJM Team and oversaw regulatory strategy at the RTO and FERC for PJM matters along with activities at the 14 states and DC within PJM. PJM is the largest electricity market in North America and the world. As a member of the Regulatory leadership team, I influenced activities across the United States and Canada and worked closely with my 10 colleagues that were experts in each region. I conducted policy analysis, business strategy and advocacy representing Enel's business units selling C&I demand response, customer-sited energy storage, solar+storage, customer-sited gas/diesel resilience, EV charging, utility scale solar, wind and hybrid storage resources, and financial hedging. To accomplish this work I collaborated across the electric utility industry, serving as one of five elected sector representatives to PJM for four consecutive years. I also served as committee chair for a national trade association for four years and was an active participant in many other national trades and organizations. Finally, I was honored to be invited to speak at numerous conferences and events with other industry leaders.

I was a regulatory affairs manager for NRG Distributed Energy Resources and NRG Curtailment Solutions based in Philadelphia. I worked with a multi-functional team to deliver energy solutions to large energy customers across 13 states and Washington, DC. In my role, I served as the lead liaison for my business unit to the regional electricity market, where I worked with others in the Power industry to develop new rules for electricity. As a key part of my work, I conducted quantitative and qualitative data analysis and synthesized the results to drive business decisions.

The Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance (KEEA) is the largest trade association in Pennsylvania dedicated to promoting the energy efficiency and advanced energy industries. As Executive Director, I engaged and educated private companies, consumers, government, and regulated industry to stay ahead of a changing market and advocated for effective energy policy in our electricity and natural gas markets. I hired eleven staff and consultants and managed an annual budget of approximately $600k. As E.D., I grew the advocacy budget 3x through new initiatives and created a healthy balance sheet. Leading our exceptional team, I proudly broadened our programs, deepened our strategic relationships, and accomplished key policy goals valued at over $200M/year. After my prior project concluded, I took a short-term role while waiting for my wife to finish medical school and match for Residency. My work involved designing and implementing policy and business research studies for Fortune 500 companies and miscellaneous support to our CEO.

I was hired by Professor Marian Chertow from Yale as part of an international research team consisting of professors, researchers, and doctoral students at Yale University and National University of Singapore. I produced an energy input-output model for the Jurung Lake District of Singapore on contract from the country’s economic development office, the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

I graduated as a Master of Environmental Management. I received honors in advanced coursework in energy systems, economics, lifecycle assessment, policy analysis, energy markets, and corporate marketing. My energy economics thesis won an award, which allowed me to present the results to government policy makers. I also received a generous academic scholarship to attend Yale.

Based in Washington, DC and San Francisco for the summer, I conducted business and policy analysis and advocated for clean energy for global environmental organization.

I worked on Wall Street as a project manager for a leading international law firm. As project manager, I supported attorney deal teams through complex transactions for private equity and Fortune 500 clients during the Great Recession. Energy clients included independent power producers, the US Department of Energy, and General Motors.

I helped to start a giving circle that funds leading social entrepreneurs in New York.
