Serve as a member of the upper command staff of a fully consolidated public safety department providing police, fire, and emergency medical services with a sworn staff of 56 cross-trained public safety officers. Provide leadership along with strategic and operational direction in order to best provide service to the community while also developing, caring for, and meeting the needs of our staff. Conduct operational analysis of staffing and equipment vs. demand in order to formulate strategic plans and optimize operations. Assist in drafting and managing the operational and capital budget. Perform human resource management tasks such as recruitment, hiring, training, promotion, evaluation and coaching. Supervise shift Captains, Paid on Call Staff and other staff. Draft policies and standard operating guidelines. Work with and foster a collaborative working relationship with the local union. Participate in labor negotiations and drafting of memoranda of understanding. Coordinate and facilitate training across all three disciplines of police, fire and EMS with both internal instructional staff and external training providers. Serve as Duty Fire Chief, responding to serious incidents as needed. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders through participation in the Brown County Traffic Safety Committee, Brown County Fire Chief's Association, MABAS Division 112, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Advisory Committees for Criminal Justice, Fire Science and EMS.
