Instructional Designer
As the Instructional Designer dedicated to creating technical trainings and certification programs for the Sales team, I have facilitated discovery sessions with subject matter experts to design and develop classes that meet the needs of the company. These classes were then piloted and revised with key individuals from across the company to ensure content accuracy and course functionality before company wide release for 85 Sales team members to begin the certification process. As part of the development of this training, I was the key facilitator in the creation of skill lists that would be used to validate on the job learning and apply technical training. These skill lists were created with measurable objectives that would allow mentors and leadership to evaluate everyone’s ability and provide a framework to align the global team. After implementing the skill list, Sales team members gained an understanding of the abilities they would need to progress in their careers on the various technical paths beyond their tenure with the company. To increase on-demand content fitting a just-in-time education need, I created all introductory courses with Articulate 360 to be hosted in the company's learning management system, Docebo. During the development of this content, I focused on creating training that would be interesting, easily navigable, and interactive to maintain learner interest and be immediately applicable to the learner's jobs. The design overcame previous hurdles of in-person classes with limited enrollment, which required travel, as well as content that was developed for different audiences and too technically in depth for Sales team purposes. In addition to my work developing technical courses, I facilitated limited lecture series with guest educators. This included working with the guest educators to revise their presentations, homework, and handouts to best engage with Nexus Controls employees as well as assisting with their lecture deliveries.
Assistant Director Of Training And Process Management - Medical Team
As an Assistant Medical Director for Dallas Pets Alive! I lead two internal teams focused on customer service and record keeping as well as a project to establish standard operating procedures for the entire Medical team. I am also responsible for creating the Medical team's training materials, onboarding, and role specific training.Upon starting this role, the Medical Director and I collaborated on a structural reorganization to help team members feel more balanced in their work loads and to rapidly respond to the team's customer service and reporting needs. I designed two teams around the goals we wanted to meet, using my previous experience on the team to guide me toward solutions I felt would be the most lasting. A year after implementation, both teams are meeting their goals even as the program has expanded to greater than 300 animals. After the reorganization, I needed to rework the training material for all our positions. I redesigned our training materials to reflect the changes in each position and created position overview videos. These videos allowed us to better match individuals with the right position before training had begun and moved the standard topics from the training sessions to a self-guided format that is reviewed before a virtual training. This prepared individuals for training, while allowing the content within the training session to be tailored to the learner's needs. Since implementing these changes, I have seen a reduction in the time it takes team members to become confident in their work and a better initial understanding of what is required in the role.
Medical Case Manager
In my role as a Medical Coordinator for Dallas Pets Alive! I communicated the medical needs of the 20-40 animals assigned to me with fosters, adopters, leadership, and other teams in the organization. It was my responsibility to ensure the current medical needs were being met and future medical needs were clearly recorded and planned to facilitate the adoption process. In service of this purpose, I was able to create original documentation to expand the program to include horses, rabbits, pigs, and goats by using personal knowledge and leading industry practices.
Laboratory Manager
As a Laboratory Manager for the Purdue Chemistry department, it was my responsibility to teach undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students how to use mammalian cell cultures safely in their research. After experiencing and reviewing the training students were receiving, I determined the training needed to be restructured to shorten both the waiting time and the program length. Before my changes, students asked to be trained months or years in advance since the wait time ranged from six weeks to four months. These students frequently needed to be retrained and made mistakes costing them both time and money. After implementing the new training, wait times reduced to a week on average and students felt more confidence when working on their own after training. I trained 37 students using this new curriculum and since the training could be delivered in a just in time format, they were all successful in translating the skills they learned to their work without retraining. In addition to facilitating training, I was able to provide many updates to the facility. I secured additional laboratory funds by completing grant submissions with a 75% approval rating and found unused equipment from other departments in the university. This allowed me to replace aging equipment and bring modern diagnostic equipment into the laboratory. I created a website to schedule shared equipment use and to store important documents in one location. This allowed students to review protocols and safety documentation and maintain inventories more easily.
Laboratory Technician
As a Virology Laboratory Technician for the Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory I was responsible for the daily diagnostic testing and analysis of samples submitted from the veterinary community. My work helped to manage the health of both individual animals and large groups such as regional fish populations and farms.During my time in this position, I saw many opportunities to make improvements to both the processes of the laboratory and the way we taught them. I was able to take a key place in the reviewing and writing of 194 standard operating procedures. By reflecting on my own experiences in learning the procedures, I was able to clarify the language in the protocols to be understood by a wider audience. I also condensed four observation documents into a single form to increase consistency in reporting both between personnel and diagnostic tests. This document helped the laboratory to begin the transition to digital record keeping in an uneventful manner.I noticed during my own training that depending on which trained individual was available, key aspects of fundament protocols could be poorly explained or skipped entirely. This inspired me to create an e-learning module that was used to train employees on the essentials of how the laboratory had to operate for the safety of employees and the integrity of the results.
Social Media Director
I guided the development of a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and a company blog to best market Proffer Brainchild Inc. strengths. Additionally, I consulted one-on-one with the company's president to provide perspectives on current trends and news about process improvement, risk management, and Lean Six Sigma. My contributions in these areas helped to cultivate an atmosphere of accessibility to better reach followers and potential clients.
