Social justice, especially in today's world, matters. That's why I'm now focusing my time on our crime and social justice coverage across Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania as the regional editor for crime and social justice, based out of the Delaware Online/The News Journal newsroom. Having spent more than six years in Delaware, I'm excited to focus on this coverage and strategize how to ask hard questions of narratives we have long come to accept. During my time at The News Journal, I've chronicled stories like what makes Wilmington's most violent neighborhood so dangerous, the driving forces behind Delaware's deadly heroin epidemic and what led to the brutal assault and death of a 15-year-old Howard High School student. In the past, I survived the second coldest February to date in Albany, NY, where I covered education across the state and in the Capital Region. I also graduated from Penn State in May 2014 after leading the student newspaper, The Daily Collegian, to its third consecutive Pacemaker award, given to five daily newspapers in the country. I'm a proud graduate of the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State. When I'm not breaking news, I am working on chronicling the lives of my family and mastering the art of cooking for one. Dreams include a New York Times' bestseller, a house by the beach and two golden retrievers. For more information or with story tips, email me at brittanyhorn08@gmail.com.
