But from that point on, Bruce, and the team he assembled, delivered going away. Together they pulled off one of the most impressive sports stories Bostonians in particular have ever witnessed and just as importantly the sport of rowing worldwide has ever seen. Boathouses globally are now striving in at least small ways to follow the lead that CRI has established. Today, during rowing season, with over a thousand rowers pushing off the CRI docks daily, the number of lives changed, this reviewer being just one, are too many to count. Similarly, the stories of the inspired CRI coaches turning around the lives of not only inner city youth, most of whom had never even thought of swimming, but also military veterans of both the past and recently off the battlefields of Afghanistan, are all a part of the legend which Bruce Smith built. Bruce is now off leading a new rowing related venture, which in its own way, furthers CRI’s “Rowing for all” mission.
