Bryce Watson Email and Phone Number
I have always had a fascination with science and the nature of the unexplained. I enjoy being challenged to the point that I will create a challenge out of a simple problem. Known for being difficult in class through distraction and arguing with teachers, I was diagnosed with ADHD. While it can get in the way of productivity at times, this had led to a thorough interest and understanding of what I am engaged in. Although easily distracted, I bring in unique ideas and creative solutions.Raised by a part owner of the family welding and manufacturing business, I've had a close relationship with metalwork and machine operation for the majority of my life. Learning to weld at age 9, I used my imagination and new-found skill to create my own toys. As I grew, my welding improved and the company decided to trial my skills in a work setting. After much practice and meticulous inspection, I became rather proficient in both Aluminum and steel welding. In my personal time, I took an interest in melting scraps for metal casting During those years I also assisted my grandfather in machine work, getting to work first hand with the design, construction, testing, and implementation of new machinery into a working production line.I attended middle and high school at Bosque college preparatory school and worked there as an after school receptionist for 2 years. I gained carpentry and set design experience for theatre production sets as well as mild leadership experience as crew chief for scene changes. Upon graduation, I moved to Rapid City, South Dakota to attend SD School of Mines and Technology for Metallurgical Engineering. After a few years I found a position at FedEx Ground as a package handler and took part in the local community by ensuring efficient and reliable package delivery. I was approached by my professors for an opportunity to assist research scientists at an SDSMT research lab, Arbegast Material Processing and Joining Laboratory. I gained experience with advanced technology such as friction stir processing and ASTM testing of materials and coatings.I completed my Bachelors degree in Metallurgical Engineering and, upon the events of 2020, decided to continue my education into Materials Science and Engineering. My senior design project involved lead acid battery recycling and figured the next step for my research was in lithium ion battery recycling. I work with another research group in the chemistry department at SDSMT developing electrochemical refining techniques for black mass electrode materials.
