This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and FDA. This fellowship takes place in the Office of Pharmaceutical Quality (OPQ), Immediate Office (IO) at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Food and Drug Administration (FDA). CDER performs an essential public health task by making sure that safe and effective drugs are available to improve the health of people in the United States. As part of the FDA, CDER regulates over-the-counter and prescription drugs, including biological therapeutics and generic drugs. This work covers more than just medicines. This fellowship seeks to apply design thinking to analyze and study business processes, content management, data management and analytics for assessment, inspection, surveillance, policy and research activities that contribute to strengthening overall pharmaceutical quality.

Planned and executed experiments to prevent and reverse the loss of dopaminergic neurons in neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s; investigated, analyzed, and assessed the neuroprotective and neurorestorative potential of the mood-altering drug pramipexole (DR2 agonist). Undertook the complex research project and created engaging and informative presentations on a wide array of subjects/topics related to potential drugs of interest.

Examined and analyzed the function of the cholesterol medication ‘statins’ and the mechanism by which they promote healthy heart function by protecting an essential protein named Beta II spectrin. Mastered and executed various proven techniques including western blotting to assess the process and extent of multiple harmful chemicals and different statin solutions affecting the structure of beta spectrin protein.

Administered all functions involved in assessing the effects of drinking on adult brains by studying the changes in mice brains and comparing the data with the brain activity across different groups. Analyzed and compiled data regarding short-term and long-term effects of alcohol in relation to abuse, addiction, and human behavior.

Conducted in-depth analysis and inspection of the impact of hibiscus sabdariffa extract on the growth rate of K562 leukemia cells by deploying various research and analysis methods. Proficiently grew and maintained numerous K562 leukemia cell generations to enable seamless experimentation and research. Analyzed and authenticated the effectiveness of natural and alternative cancer treatments in reducing the growth of cancerous cells.
