A leading international development charity, with a turnover of around £30 million pa that uses technology to challenge poverty, working with poor women and men around the world.

Mary undertakes a wide range of mentoring and consultancy engagements. Currently she is working with the small but growing charity the Dotcom Childrens Foundation in their goal to achieve best governance practice. Before that she mentored the recently appointed CEO of Bootstraps Enterprises. She is working with St Peter de Beauvoir Church to develop a business plan for their fast developing crypt letting activity, including writing a business plan. She has worked to develop staff and student social enterprise spinouts at UCL; clients include Mapping for Change and Heritage without Borders. She project managed for the DTI: "Match Winners - a Guide to commercial collaborations between social enterprise and private sector business".Assignments include Interim management at Walworth Garden Farm. Past clients have included Child Poverty Action Group, Family Action and VCS Engage.For some time she has been developing her longstanding interest in the role of the third sector and in charity history and is conceptualizing a book on this subject.

Cass Business School Centre for Charity Effectiveness, is a centre of excellence where academics, management consultants and other not-for-profit experts pool their knowledge and expertise. Mary developed an expertise in third sector collaborations and mergers, being engaged in consultancy, teaching on the New Chief Executive’s and MSC programmes, and thought leadership on the issue, writing several articles. Other significant commissions included a review of the realities and possibilities of Social Finance: a competitive review of CCE's position; and the design of the marketing of CCE's Strategic Implementation Plan. Most recently she was a member of the consultancy team that delivered the 'Building Better Governance' seminar series, and wrote a briefing paper on 'Effective Board Reports'.

She also maintains her keen interest in skills development within the non profit sector.

After its incubation by Community Action Network, Mary was persuaded to co-found PrimeTimers as a standalone social enterprise to animate this embryonic concept through her proven business development and management experience and her extensive third sector networks. From a start up with no earned income and nil public profile the organisation grew to profitability and a £1million turnover in her last year. She developed for the company a deserved reputation as thought leader in areas such as cross sectoral career transfer and third sector skills, especially the concept of a Civil Society University, with successful conferences, debates, seminars and publications, and gained a reputation for PrimeTimers as a well respected brand. Business support to charities and non-profits, especially through delivering public sector sub contacts, ensured a sustainable future. Mary decided to quit the Company both as director, employee and member (effectively part owner) at the end of 2010.

Banker in the City as Executive Board Director at PaineWebber International Bank Ltd, a subsidiary of a major US investment bank. NED of Guernsey International Trust Company subsidiary.Personal leadership and strength in marketing, business development and product design secured the turn round of a previously loss making bank until, on a £35 million capital base, it made a £5 million profit in its last year. The bank was closed following a takeover by UBS and Mary happily decided to follow her heart and engage with the third sector. Earlier management roles at PaineWebber included leading the workout of a ‘bad bank’ and establishing a banking department for the newly licensed bank.
