When I arrived at UC San Diego in August 2010, I inherited a non-academic student conduct program that was literally in shambles. There was no confidence in the system, no useful data available, and staff had not been trained how to administer the process. Through careful collaboration with colleagues, students, and members of the campus community, we transformed the program into a benchmark for other campuses regionally and nationally. It’s one of my proudest accomplishments as a professional and one that was a total team effort in every sense of the term!My role and responsibilities have grown as my department expanded from 2 full-time staff members (including myself) to 12 fuIl-time staff members (including myself). I’ve successfully developed and implemented new student compliance and restorative justice functions in my department while coordinating policy development projects and the risk management program for the Division of Student Affairs. I’ve also developed a keen love of and involvement with program review, especially how it supports program improvement and resource allocation. As a professional, I cut my teeth at Loyola Marymount University, experiencing a mission-driven philosophy which has heavily influenced my work. I learned the importance of clearly articulating the mission, vision, and values of a program as they influence everything you strive to accomplish. I also had a growth and development philosophy instilled in me, which has carried through for me as a professional and as a youth sports coach. I’m involved in a variety of professional and volunteer activities. I’m a licensed attorney and have volunteered my time as a certified mediator for a local community organization. In 2014, I founded the San Diego Student Conduct Officers Group as a space for local conduct offices to connect and discuss student conduct related topics. I’ve coached youth sports for several years, including time with tennis, baseball, basketball, flag football, and soccer teams. I enjoy helping the next generation grow and develop on and off the field. I’m interested in widening my network, learning about professional opportunities, and assisting colleagues with their work.
