About Brittany Burnett

I have a combined eight years experience working on a variety of San Francisco/ Bay Area and larger California ecology and geospatial projects, including fine scale vegetation maps for Sonoma, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Luis Obispo, and Monterey Counties. I’ve developed a skill set that intersects botanical surveying and geospatial analysis, and includes developing, implementing and managing diverse vegetation survey projects, extensive plant species and community assemblage identification and photo-interpretation, dichotomous key creation, demographic data collection, geospatial analysis and interpretation, and cartographic work. I've also collaborated with many agencies to design, develop, and implement novel surveying strategies, and assisted on the backend with data analysis and management using ESRI products.

Botanist, Gis Analyst, Photointerpetative Vegetation Mapper
Tukman Geospatial Llc Nov 2020 - Present
    Berkeley, California, United States
    • Photo-interpretively mapped highly diverse vegetation communities to the association level for fine-scale vegetation maps throughout 7 California counties spanning over 6 million acres. • Wrote taxonomic dichotomous keys to represent regionally-specific plant community assemblage rulesets for photointerpretors and vegetation map users.• Led accuracy assessment, field validation, and field calibration field work in 10 California counties spanning over 7 million acres.• Created a comprehensive data dictionary schema and developed numerous inter-agency data collection standards and protocols.• Created pre-attack maps for firefighters deployed to new fires through the North Bay. Consulted with regional fire chiefs on goals, and used the fine scale vegetation maps and LiDAR derivatives (Wildfire Risk to Structures, Canopy Height Models, Fuel Models) to incorporate best approaches to wildland firefighting in highly specific regions.• Led diverse geospatial analyses, consulting with clients on ecological questions and often developing individualized scripts or tools for analysis.• Predicted areas of climatic refugia for four species of interest in the Golden Gate Biosphere by comparing species distribution models to fine scale vegetation maps.
  • Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
Botanist/ Consultant For Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara And Santa Cruz County Vegetation Maps
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy Jun 2018 - Apr 2021
    Fort Mason, San Francisco
    • Primary field botanist in Marin and San Mateo counties. • Identified plants to the subspecies level and classified plant communities across habitats. • Consultant and quality assurance lead for surveying projects in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties.• Planned and implemented releve, rapid assessment and reconnaissance field work, managed GPS data collection, navigation and ground-truthing of field sites, collected plant, soil and geographical data, and described vegetation in fine-scale classification and mapping regimes. • Managed ArcGIS data management and map creation, wrote reports on diverse vegetation assemblages, and database quality control and management.
  • Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
