Oct 2015 - Mar 2016

Senior Quality Assurance Engineer

San Jose, California, Us

As Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, I had broad responsibility for automating CA-Top Secret Unix Systems Services test regression bed, which had been a highly manual process, taking weeks to perform. I extended the number of cases, and made much of the effort more systematic, while reducing the time for testing to a matter of days. This was the major responsibility I handled for my four years of service.I continued my old responsibilities for IMS testing. While CICS testing for Top Secret had been taken over by another technician, I was given responsibility to test ACF2/CICS, an area I had no familiarity with, but which I managed for two years. Due to a number of management changes, the ACF2 responsibility for CICS was transferred back to the ACF2 Quality Assurance group. I extended the testing for partitioned data set (PDS) security under Top Secret, and automated the process. It was decided that Mainframe Security would have to get by with fewer testing personnel. While nobody faulted my work, or my work ethic, my position with C A was terminated recently.

Feb 2011 - Jan 2015

Payroll Applications Programmer And Vm/Vse Operator

Condata, Inc

My major responsibility was to synchronize payroll calculation programs with tax changes for federal, state, and local tax laws, for which I received monthly bulletins from CCH Publishing. We maintained hardcopy tax materials which had to be physically merged. Some details changed drastically over my short tenure.I had to learn the VM/VSE environment at Condata, both to edit and compile the programs, and to test and execute the programs needed for client payrolls. Condata was quite a small operation, which lost clients to larger packaged accounting systems during the time I was there. With the handwriting on the wall, it was clear I needed to find a more stable position. When I heard that C A Technologies was again looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer, I applied, and we were all happy to find one another again.

Sep 2007 - Jan 2011

Quality Assurance Engineer

Lincoln, Rhode Island, Us

I began work as quality assurance with Applied Data Research in 1986, developing the product ADR/IDEAL, a 4th-generation development environment for DATACOM/DB and CICS. In my previous positions, I had developed expertise in IMS DB/DC, IDMS DB/DC, DATACOM/DB (where I had been DBA) and IDEAL (where I had been IDEAL Site Administrator). Applied Data Research was merged into Ameritech Corporation (which later became Verizon). Ameritech spun off Applied Data Research to Computer Associates, in 1988. Through all of these changes, the value I provided in discovering problems, and suggesting solutions, kept me on the job, despite major personnel losses in our software group.I helped provide quality to several major enhancements for what became CA-IDEAL and CA-DATACOM for several years. When CA decided to lower the profile of IDEAL in 1991, I was transitioned to the Mainframe Security Products group, with a concentration on CA-Top Secret. I initially worked on security for the Top Secret/IMS interface. When our CICS quality engineer left for another company, my effort expanded to absorb the Top Secret/CICS interface. Eventually, I became responsible for testing security in CA-IDMS DB/DC.When z/OS was extended to include Unix Systems Services (then called Open MVS), I began applying my ability to learn new command languages to include USS command language and security for native Unix security, as well as the HFSSEC CA extension security. I developed tests for cross-memory fastauth security, for Kerberos session control, and for CACHESERV. I became adept at security trace, and performing Top Secret diagnostic elements, which were needed to diagnose behavior problems. Due to a number of management changes, I became uncomfortable with Computer Associates, and looked for work as an application programmer. Through a former Computer Associates colleague, I made contact with a small payroll firm who needed a COBOL CICS applications programmer.
