About Brandon Brooks

Developing software is a challenge, developing people is more so, and developing software people is exponentially more challenging. Throughout my career, I have sought out ways to challenge myself and found that helping those around me grow is far more satisfying than building something on my own. It takes just the right balance of experience and intuition, of praise and criticism to lead people forward. It isn’t about building blind trust, lest I wish to grow no further. It is about building a relationship where people are welcome to challenge my ideas as I am theirs. One person, working alone, can build something amazing, but a team, working together, can build something truly awe inspiring. My career started in help desk and technical support; helping users understand the technology they had. I moved on to infrastructure management; helping companies understand the technology they had. From there I entered into consulting and training; helping anyone I could understand what tools were available and how they could be used to accomplish their goals. Sometimes those tools were too expensive, or just not quite right, that is when I entered into software development. I learned to build the tools needed for the task. From there it was only a natural progression to helping others understand how to build the tools. Perhaps my next challenge will be to help others understand how to help others understand.
