My passion for computers and networks started in 1995, when I received my first Compaq Presario for Christmas. I was fascinated with how it worked and even more interested in how the sounds of that little 28Kbps dial-up modem could connect me to millions of other computers around the world. There were no computer classes offered in any of my primary schools other than typing, so I was forced to become a self-starter early. I absorbed everything computer related that I could through forums and blogs on the internet. I had to learn command-line due to the types of games that I wanted to play and taught myself hardware configuration through finding out why those games were not running correctly. Later, I started building and configuring basic networks and computers, in order to play those same games with friends in different locations. Through building these networks I started noticing small vulnerabilities and wondered if they could be used on a larger scale. This passion for technology and the underlying question of how it could be used in a disruptive way has kept me motivated throughout my studies in Cybersecurity with Southern New Hampshire University. I have studied new languages such as Python, Java, SQL, HTML and Bash. I have learned techniques on how to protect data through encryption and limited access, as well as, studied the importance of cybersecurity culture and how impactful it can be for a company when protecting networks against social engineering attacks.The future of cyber is an exciting one, and I remain curious about how we can use technology to our benefit and how we will keep it from being used against us.
