I assisted my professor and lab team at Plum Island Estuary, MA and The Outer Banks, NC to extract peat cores and take geomorphological measurements. In the lab I analyzed the peat samples for organic matter content, via LOI and PICARRO, as well as their carbon isotopic signatures and carbon to nitrogen ratios, using an Elemental Analyzer. The research conducted on the peat from the Plum Island Estuary, MA became my thesis project where I reported my observations and results on the effect that long-term nutrient enrichment has on belowground variables of NE saltmarsh peat at the Southeastern GSA 2019 conference.

As a Student Activities and Orientation Assistant, I had a two-part job where I helped the Director of Student Activities and Orientation train orientation leaders as well as run orientation week for incoming students and parents and also manage monthly campus-wide events to build a stronger community. I had the responsibility of having weekly meetings, with the orientation leaders I was responsible for, to check in on the status of first year students and the leaders themselves to provide comfort and any type of aid I could give for a successful transition to all parties.

I prepared aboveground and belowgorund Phragmites australis samples from mutli-year climate change effect experiment at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center to observe isotopic analyses. I also built and managed an indoor saltmarsh system to extend research on the growth patterns of P. australis. My second project as a lab assistant was to collaborate with the sedimentology professor and collect peat samples using a Russian peat borer at the Plum Island Estuary, MA to analyze the effects of a long-term nutrient enrichment experiment.
