    I was responsible for the production of all draughting work that our business unit required, either in the form of 2D drawings or 3D models. It was essential that the 3D models were accurate as they were used directly during the C.N.C. machining process. I also used the model volumes to calculate accurate buoyancy values – essential due to the high cost of some of the specialist materials that the company use.Due to the (fairly) simple nature of the buoyancy products, jobs tended to take less than a week to complete. The nature of the offshore oil industry however, usually dictates that the products are required almost immediately. The limited time available to produce designs and drawings is always a challenge on which I thrive.Part of my work with this company involved me working at the Houston office for two weeks. Other projects required me to travel to Japan and South Korea in 2005.

Also responsible for running a design project to improve operator access within the flask preparation bays. This project included site surveys, ergonomic studies, Hazops and general design responsibilities.Produced front-end designs of an encapsulation plant for installation at the U.K.A.E.A. Harwell site working in conjunction with B.E.L.Responsible for the design of an M.E.B. Turning Frame for use in the Thorp complex at Sellafield. Led a small team of detail designers and ensured that the project met with both specification and programme demands and that the budget requirements were met.Key member of the team responsible for the design of a “Breakdown” glovebox (to AECP 59) for use at Burghfield. The glovebox suite consisted of a fume cabinet, transfer tunnel and a main storage / machining cabinet, all linked by transfer trolleys and sliding seal doors. The main cabinet area was designed with an integral sparge pipe system to allow a controlled environment to be maintained.

    Responsible for design work on the S.M.P. Fuel Rod manufacturing machines and associated gloveboxes for the B.N.F.L. Sellafield M.O.X. plant.Design input on all gloveboxes including shielded and un-shielded types was carried out in line with both B.N.F.L. standards and Atomic Energy Code AECP 59.The machine itself consists of 5 ‘standard’ gloveboxes, one neutron (jabroc) shielded glovebox and one cabinet. The shielded glovebox contains mechanisms that handle the alpha radioactive MOX pellets. The cans are then transported to other gloveboxes where operations such as end plug fitting, welding and helium leak testing are carried out.
