We had mask making craft nights, a ‘create your own’ graphic novel program based around Jack London’s The Call of the Wild and created a puppet show to the Edgar Allen Poe poem, The Raven.- Monthly, I went into area middle and High schools and facilitated book talks and performed bibliographic instruction. Some of my favorite book talks were for Matt De La Pena’s Mexican White boy, Sherman Alexie’s The absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and Margaret Peterson Haddix’s Historical novel about the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire called Uprising. - I helped choreograph a book cart drill team that performed in local parades. The students involved in the summer reading program also dressed in costume and marched in the parades behind the drill team performing choreographed moves and carrying the library's banner. Show less
