Bupa is a health and care company, headquartered in the UK, offering predominantly health insurance, health services and aged care services. I currently work in Melbourne, Australia supporting the health insurance arm (including hospital and medical care management, customer health care, wellness services and telehealth services) and health services and villages and aged care arms (mostly content and marketing) with legal advice across a range of matters. I provide ad hoc support to other arms of the business across the APAC region (including corporate affairs). I also support ESG and sustainability initiatives (including modern slavery and greenwashing).

I supported all business units with legal advice, and I assisted with governance, risk and compliance (including company secretarial and IP management) matters. Areas covered include: supply chain, distribution, privacy and data protection, corporate practices, clinical trials, regulatory, consumer, B2B, information technology, insurance, intellectual property, real property, financing, equipment leasing, and employment.

Shadowed barristers and performed research work for counsel in IP, criminal, administrative and commercial/property law. Learned about various laws, civil procedure, tactics in court, strategies for negotiating pre-trial, preparations for trial and the mechanics of trial.

Monash University branch. Worked on two projects in a team of six to help two non-profits.Training provided by Nous Group.Managed a sub-group of three people. Lead the team during the presentation stage.Edited and jointly presented the final report to the client.

Provided legal advice to clients, on behalf of a qualified solicitor, during the evening sessions on a fortnightly basis. Strategic advice was given considering the client's personal circumstances, any limitation dates, and the nature of the law in issue. The advice was thoroughly researched and discussed with a solicitor before it was relayed to the client. After the advice is given, a file note was prepared and the meeting documented in the system for future use. I also trained and mentored new students and volunteers. I received a volunteer service award.

Assisted two family law solicitors with various tasks including: drafting advice, drafting affidavits, drafting letters, researching the law, preparing court documents, filing court documents, open/close files, file management, using CLSIS, inspecting subpoenas, reviewing child support applications, reviews and appeals, seeking facts from the client, assisting the solicitors at the Dandenong Federal Circuit Court, viewing negotiations and consultations and conducting various other administrative and office tasks and diary management.

SMLS provides legal advice where possible. I interviewed clients, provided advice on behalf of a solicitor, conducted ongoing case work on various legal issues, attended seminars on topical legal issues, worked in a team, conducted student appearances at local and regional Magistrates' Court, liaised with barristers and other third parties, engaged in community legal development, performed clerical and administrative duties, volunteered in outreach programs, and supervised and taught new students procedures.

Worked on conveyancing matters and other property related issues. Helped conduct property settlements. I also went to the State Revenue Office to pay fees and to Land Victoria to lodge documents for land transfer or to update titles. I wrote files notes and liaised with other firms on current matters. I also read through a few County Court cases to familiarise myself with civil procedure, court books and evidence.

I worked closely with the Monash Entrepreneurs Caulfield team to deliver extraordinary events for the members. Had meetings with Monash University staff regarding the development of a pitching event and the commencement of a fund for entrepreneurs.

Worked full time during that period. I then worked as a casual when work was available during 2012. Familiar with Maximizer CRM 11 and 12. Populated their data system with information from previous jobs and established contact links to encourage future transactions and find new leads. This process delivered many new insights and a mailing campaign was conducted to ensure that the company was still interested with their business.

Worked for five full days at this accredited legal firm. I shadowed a barrister and saw litigation proceedings at Court. I also looked through cases, I was taught how to research legislation and I was assigned tasks of proof-reading submissions. The firm gave me an interesting introduction to law.
