My mathematical area of research is on characterizing the structure of the generalized and extended symmetric spaces of the special and linear groups over a finite field. I also conduct research in bioinformatics, using machine learning algorithms to predict whether a given segment of a DNA sequence is a promoter region or not. In addition, I serve as Jackson State University’s XSEDE Campus Champion, the designated local source of knowledge of XSEDE services for researchers and educators on campus. The National Science Foundation’s Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) program endeavors to broaden participation in High Performance Computing and big data by making the resources of people, data, and supercomputers more accessible to researchers at any institution. In this capacity I have coordinated workshops on many topics in HPC and big data such as Introduction to Python 3, Introduction to R, Parallel R, Hadoop, and Scientific Visualization.I have a special interest in increasing the participation of under-represented groups in STEM, particularly the field of mathematics. My activities and accomplishments include conducting undergraduate research, coordinating the JSU Mathematics and Engineering Fair, organizing Statistics and Coding Workshops for high school students, co-directing a summer program for middle-schools girls engaged in the mathematical sciences, and initiating a Math Club for middle-schoolers at E. E. Rogers SDA Academy.
