Managed multiple projects totaling more than $25 million. Led the teams working to implement the projects. Directed strategic efforts in global health security, human resources for health and business development. Responsible for liaising with donors, partners and other key stakeholders and providing technical support for policy development and implementation, strategic advocacy and communication. ▪ Coordinated business development opportunities for USAID Burkina Faso Health Systems Strengthening, Ethiopia Public Health Emergency Management, Ethiopia Health Security Activity, and others.▪ Managed the successful transition of the USAID Health, Finance and Governance Project in Jordan by bringing in new leadership, shoring up management practices, and liaising with donors and partners. Oversaw 27 staff and 3 local partners. ▪ Executed Palladium’s role on the USAID Preparedness and Response Project, contributing to the Global Health Security Agenda and enabling governments to establish systems, policies, and practices for prevention and detection of, and response to, emerging disease threats. Managed 4 staff and $1.8 million.▪ Executed Palladium’s role and closeout of USAID’s Human Resources for Health 2030 global project with the objective to improve the availability and quality of the global health workforce needed to advance universal health coverage. Managed a team of 6 and $2.5 million.▪ Championed Palladium’s work under Health Policy Plus to engage West African youth (representing 7 countries) in a reproductive health on-line advocacy training resulting in multiple spin-off What’sApp chat groups coordinating and sharing advocacy experiences and policy successes.▪ Led the buy-in of several West Africa countries to Health Policy Plus including Burkina Faso, Guinea, Niger, and The Gambia, bringing in more than $4.5 million.

Managed projects in 12 countries and 1 regional program totaling more than $67 million. Oversaw 4 country directors and 4 senior technical US-based staff. Directed, coached, and supervised senior program managers and senior technical staff in Africa, the Middle East, and Afghanistan in policy advocacy, capacity strengthening, and policy analysis. Responsible for timely, high-quality development, monitoring, and implementation of country work plan.▪ Led efforts in West Africa, Ethiopia, and Malawi with civil society, government partners, and the private sector to establish the legislative requirements to fund family planning.▪ Supported the technical response of the Government of Kenya to implement new policy on ‘free’ maternal care for the project.

Guided 8 country office directors on high-visibility events, high-level visits, communication, and media support, and spent 6 months in Malawi as Acting Country Director. Led capacity strengthening training, coaching, mentoring, and apprenticeships in advocacy and communication for staff in 8 country programs. Represented Save the Children on Congressional visits and with media, reporting to the Africa Area Director.▪ Coordinated establishment of Save the Children’s African Union Policy and Advocacy Office focused on the implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child with the African Union, and African Union Member States.▪ Developed strategic advocacy capacity with Save the Children’s Africa Advocacy Resource Team producing national and regional training toolkits and delivering advocacy and communication training.

Established the organization's first policy and advocacy office, grassroots network, and children’s policy agenda working with key members of the US Congress, their staff, and federal agencies. Managed 8 staff and reported to the Vice President.▪ Secured funding for child protection in domestic and international emergency settings and USAID’s maternal and child health programs.▪ Championed child protection efforts working with Senators Biden and McCain to introduce the Women and Children in Conflict Protection Act, portions of which were integrated into the US Iraq policy agenda.

Expanded and improved the rebranded/renamed Global Health Council policy and advocacy agenda in global health, engaging members of the US Congress, their staff, federal agency contacts, other multilateral agencies, and the nongovernmental community. Oversaw Global Health Council congressional study tours and Capitol Hill briefings. Managed a team of 6 staff and $6 million. Reported to the CEO.▪ Established the Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s Fund and increased international health development funding for maternal child health, infectious diseases, and HIV.

Facilitated the establishment of a Turkish nongovernmental organization in advocacy network dedicated to enhancing women’s reproductive health policy through training in advocacy, strategic planning, development, and public speaking.▪ The network, Kadin Icin Destek Olusturma Grubu, successfully lobbied the Turkish Government to put a line item in the national budget for contraceptive commodities.

As a Michigan Population Fellow, I assisted with overall management of the USAID Turkey population program. Reviewed funding proposals, monitored project activities, and coordinated the country program phaseout with USAID/Washington, 9 cooperating agencies, Turkish counterparts, and other international donors. ▪ The US Ambassador and Turkish Minister of Health signed a memorandum of understanding with the agreement that Turkey would begin purchasing their own contraceptive commodities.

Coordinated the legislative agenda for the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, co-chaired by Rep. Snowe.▪ Formulated and monitored legislation in the areas of family planning, women’s health research, and equity in the workplace, including mobilizing women business owners to testify in support of the Family Medical Leave Act. ▪ Led efforts to overturn the Mexico City Policy (international family planning policy), resulting in a successful Congressional outcome (later reversed by Presidential executive order).▪ Researched, drafted, and worked with the legislative council to enact the Women’s Health Research Act, HR 5290, which led to the establishment within the National Institutes of Health of the National Center for Women's Health Research and Development to provide funding and required other federal agencies conducting health research to include female subjects.
