In this role, I am responsible for shaping the APMEN VxWG strategy and workplan to; → Best identify cross-Asia Pacific priorities for vivax elimination, → Provide technical support to countries for the better implementation of current treatment options, or policy change for new treatment tools and → Ensure cross-regional diffusion of learnings between countries to catalyze and improve quality of care for vivax and accelerated uptake of new tools.

In this role, I shape contribute to shaping the regional strategy with National Malaria Program to increase coverage of optimal vivax radical cure, including; →Providing technical support to country coordinators and National Programs across the region on processes to improve current vivax radical cure tools e.g. effective interventions to increase patient adherence that can be integrated into routine activities, advice on improving training quality →Liaising with headquarters regulatory team and pharmaceutical partners to track status of registration for new tools →Coordinating and catalysing relationships between National Programs and other technical agencies e.g. pharmacovigilance units→Supporting Country Coordinators to collate and publicize early learning experiences for new tools such as G6PD analysers →Undertaking readiness planning and prioritization with National Malaria Programs and keys stakeholders to better identify where resources and technical support should be focused in the immediate term → Providing inputs into ongoing feasibility study design

Lead for LINK project – data for decision-making in malaria control in collaboration with WHO AFRO. LINK aims to increase uptake of research evidence by National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs) in Sub-Saharan Africa (https://www.linkmalaria.org/). Also, Principal Investigator and director for the Maternal healthcare for markets Evaluation Team (MET), an independent evaluation of MSD for Mothers programmes (https://www.lshtm.ac.uk/research/centres-projects-groups/met). My current responsibilities include; → Designing and implementing innovative research strategies to evaluate ongoing complex interventions including submission of ethics applications. → Providing overall technical direction, motivating teams to realize project deliverables. Managing 22 researchers and 6 administrative staff. Report and manuscript writing, quantitative and qualitative data analysis. We successfully over-delivered, under-budget for both projects I lead. Most recent Annual Reviews from DfiD (LINK) were both A+.→ Successfully coordinating multiple partners across UK, Sub-Saharan Africa and the US including contract negotiations with donors and sub-contractors, liaising with project partners AFRO/WHO, and dissemination and interpretation of technical results with NMCPs and national level stakeholders.→ As part of the RBM Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group I am contributing to the development of guidelines for National Malaria Control Programmes e.g. Action-oriented guidelines for routine surveillance

Uganda-Based Working Across Ssa And Ap Regions

As a consultant I provided high-level technical advice for several organisations including; UNICEF, AusAID (DfAT), DfiD, UNDP, WHO, Roll Back Malaria, and the Malaria Consortium. → Influenced key regional stakeholders of the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance on malaria drug resistance and elimination. This included translating research for high-level decision-makers of the Pharmaceutical APLMA committee and similar for AusAID teams in advance of the Malaria AusAID summit (2012). My work contributed to the East Asian Leaders statement on malaria elimination in 2014 → Provided support to NMCPs and partners in the development of national malaria control and monitoring and evaluation plans in DR Congo, Liberia, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda and Zimbabwe. In the same countries, supported Global Fund proposals including gap analyses and forecasting of ACTs, LLINs and auxiliary equipment→ Designed epidemiological surveys/evaluations, for example, Mosquito net utilisation (Ethiopia, Darfur), Malaria prevalence surveys (Burundi, East Timor, DR Congo), Mortality surveys (Burundi), Health seeking behaviour (DR Congo), Knowledge-Attitude-Practice surveys (Somalia, Sudan)→ Mapped and analysed National Health Systems and Malaria Control Programs to identify obstacles to achieving Roll Back Malaria, Millennium Development Goal and National Health targets (DRC and Tanzania)

→ As part of the ACT consortium drug quality team, contributed to design and implementation of AMFM impact studies on the availability, price and quality of Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies in Tanzania. → Developed training tools and algorithms for introduction of RDTs to private sector facilities in Uganda

→ Led a team of 15 personnel to provide technical advice and support to National Malaria Control Programme, donor and NGO partner agencies→ Supported >8 NGOs providing health services in Internally Displaced Persons camps to undertake Indoor Residual Spraying and distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets→ Provided technical advice to NMCP on the introduction of mRDTs and Artemisinin-Combination Therapies replacing CQ/SP. Developed and provided training packages for >5 NGOs providing health services in Internally Displaced Persons Camps on use of Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies and malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests→ Trainer on MENTOR regional course on malaria control in complex emergencies

→ Designed and implemented of Zonal malaria community project including baseline assessments, monitoring and evaluation. Designed and implemented antimalarial efficacy studies in South Kivu in collaboration with WHO.

East Timor

→ Established 13 malaria laboratories throughout East Timor. Developed training materials and delivered training to personnel in malaria laboratories and established supervisory and quality assurance mechanisms to ensure high-standards of slide reading.
