This project also required Caroline to develop a 300-item meta-analytic codebook to capture study-, participant-, and outcome-level data pertaining to psychosocial stimulation and parenting-based interventions, which resulted in a meta-database of 28 studies, 59 contrasts, and 855 effect sizes that she currently manages. In conjunction with this project, Caroline trained and supervised five research assistants for coding research studies, orchestrated weekly meetings to maintain progress, and analyzed data to support the development of short- and long-term deliverables. Research Assistant
To support the initial phases of this research project, Caroline conducted a literature review and landscape analysis on psychosocial stimulation interventions and programs across low-resource, global settings. The final deliverable resulted in a 32-page document cataloging 23 individual studies organized by program typology. In conjunction with this task, Caroline developed a small database of studies and research literature, which laid the foundation for the team's meta-analytic study.

Her dissertation research explored trajectories of teenage parents’ supportive couple and coparenting relationships across the first 9 years of parenthood and tested whether effects of these relationship trajectories mitigated children's externalizing and internalizing behavior challenges indirectly through lower levels of maternal harsh parenting. Results suggested that supportive couple relationships directly mitigated children's problem behaviors; some of these effects were indirectly transmitted through attenuated levels of maternal harsh parenting behaviors. For supportive coparenting relationships, trajectories directly predicted low levels of children's problem behaviors. Services to strengthen teenage parents’ interpersonal relationships may help to prevent emotional and behavioral challenges in their children. Show less

To facilitate this work, she merged her team’s meta-analytic database of 420 studies, 18,000 contrasts, and 32,000 effect sizes into SPSS; extracted 23 studies, 65 contrasts, and 463 effect sizes to conduct multi-level modeling of meta-analytic data using SPSS and SAS. Results suggested that EC and FS programs targeting teenage parents had small and meaningful impacts on supportive parenting behaviors and their children's health and development, and that programs which offered services through professional staff added additional impacts to these outcomes.
