An AFL coterie group is a network of like minded business professionals that come together each season to assist their club on and off the field. They achieve this through running pre-match hospitality, networking, assisting the administration in an advisory role, conducting various fundraising tasks, mentoring the players and much more. Members of a coterie group are truly considered to be a part of the inner sanctum of their club and contribute an enormous amount each season. The majority of Victorian based (or former Victorian based) clubs have at least one coterie group. For many years now the President and Secretary of the principle coterie at each AFL Club have held bi-annual meetings in a bid to share knowledge that will enable them individually to grow, develop and be innovative within their respective clubs. In order to build on the great camaraderie and relationships that have formed over many years with reciprocal coteries and to allow the group to collectively grow in presence and stature in the eyes of our their affiliated AFL clubs, the Presidents of each of the Carltonians, Confreres, Essendonians, Halos, Lion Hunters, Melbourne Coterie, Northerners, Pivots, Westerners and Woodsmen were invited to be a part of a new formalised group with the intention of working together to conduct joint fundraising and other initiatives. On the back of that concept, the Heads of Coterie Association Inc (HOCA) was established in 2011 with its founding supporters being the Caltonians, Confreres, Essendonians, Lion Hunters, Northerners and Westerners. The opportunity that HOCA presents for each of the coteries involved is enormous and we hope to grow our activities and events year in year out. Our inaugural Anzac Day Brunch in 2011 saw nearly 750 people attend Crown Palladium for a brunch prior to the Anzac Day clash between Collingwood and Essendon and returned a dividend to all coteries (and through them, clubs) involved.
President
