Carrie Wright is a Senior Staff Scientist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Her work is focused on making data science and computational biology more approachable to help scientists and trainees take their research further with informatics. She was previously an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) where she was a member of the Johns Hopkins Data Science Lab (DaSL) (https://jhudatascience.org/). She is currently a member of the Fred Hutch Data Science Lab(https://hutchdatascience.org/), a member of the Open Case Studies team (https://opencasestudies.github.io/), the Genomic Data Science Community Network (GDSCN) (https://www.gdscn.org/), and the Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) Training Network (ITN) (https://www.itcrtraining.org/). She is also the current chair of the ITCR OPEN (Operations, Promotion, Education, and Networking) group (https://www.itcrtraining.org/open) which is focused on increasing the impact of the technologies developed by ITCR participants, improving the effectiveness of their day-to-day work, and supporting and connecting participants with one another. Prior to joining the JHSPH, Dr. Wright was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development (LIBD), where her research focused on uncovering genetic mechanisms in psychiatric disease through the utilization of data science tools. At LIBD, Dr. Wright co-founded the LIBD rstats club (http://research.libd.org/rstatsclub), a community designed to encourage others to learn more about R programming and statistics. Dr. Wright has also served as an instructor for the Baltimore Underground Science Space and the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
