Catherine Augustine (Ph.D., Education, The University of Michigan) is The Director of the RAND, Pittsburgh Office and a Senior Policy Researcher RAND. As the Director, she manages an office of 250 staff and represents RAND in the community through outreach and public speaking. Her research is supported by grants from national foundations and the federal government. Dr. Augustine focuses on improving educational outcomes for students in urban school districts. She both evaluates implementation of reforms and assesses their impact. She is currently leading two randomized controlled trials. One examines five urban districts’ summer learning programs. The other focuses on implementing restorative practices in 22 schools in one urban district. Her research includes detailed analyses of program implementation as well as impacts. Past studies led by Dr. Augustine have examined school leadership and district governance, arts education, the particular challenges facing middle schools, and education in the Middle East.
