Catherine is Head of Herbert Smith Freehills' Tier 1/Band 1 rated Planning team. She specialises in the consenting of major energy and infrastructure projects and the development consent order (DCO) regime. She has promoted DCOs for the Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear power stations, and the Aquind interconnector (between the UK and France). She acts for Gatwick, Luton and Southend airports on their expansion plans, including promoting the DCO for Gatwick's second runway. She is advising National Grid on several Great Grid Upgrade projects, and is advising on multiple solar DCOs. She began her career promoting the New Tyne Crossing tunnel project, and was at the forefront of fracking in the UK when acting for Cuadrilla Resources on their Lancashire projects.
