I am a first generation college graduate, actually I am a first generation high school graduate as both of my parents dropped out of high school. I can say, with no hyperbole, that public schools and public libraries saved me and allowed me to build a life I love. I have been a teacher since 1985. I am embarking on a new adventure in a few days as librarian in the high school where I have taught everything from 9th grade English to AP Literature and Composition for the last 17 years. I am recently ESL certified and am now working with an emergency cert for the library as I continue my graduate program at NJCU. I have had various experiences over the decades, from presenting at NCTE to being awarded Teacher of the Year at the school where I teach. I once gave the opening convocation in our district to over 1,000 educators receiving tears and a standing ovation (I shared the tears, I’m an emotional one). I love this job. I always have and my students sniff out how much I enjoy my life and my work with them. We are a winning combination.
