JBCT, Jail Based Competency Treatment is a partnership program between the San Diego County Sheriff Jail System and the Department State Hospital. It is a 30 bed module for males who have been assessed unable to proceed legally with a criminal process. The purpose of the progran is to restore the legal competency through intermodal and multidisciplinary treatment plan. My role as Expressive Arts Therapist and Mental Health rehabilitation specialist is to plan, manage and facilitate groups Monday through Friday with the purpose of promoting and nurturing mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. The groups are designed to enhanced social growth, forensic education toward trial readiness.
