About Cecile Godde

Dr. Cecile Godde is a Senior Research Scientist and Team Leader at CSIRO - Australia's national research agency. She is passionate about the challenges in relation to agriculture, food security, sustainability and global change, at the farm level as well as in a national and global context.Recent projects:Cécile is leading the True Cost of Food project. The project aims to refine True Cost Accounting (TCA) methods to estimate the true costs of externalities in the Australian food system. As both a radical mindset shift and a methodology, TCA is a powerful tool to communicate food systems performance and support change in policy and practice.Cécile is leading the FoodShed project, a project that combines novel conceptual frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and domain modelling expertise, including natural language processing, to support our collective understanding of the complex dynamics in the food-sheds of urban consumers.In 2021-2022, Dr. Godde led the CSIRO team of the DARPA World Modelers Program (darpa.mil/program/world-modelers). The CSIRO team leveraged biophysical crop and rangeland modelling, household bio-economic agent-based modelling, and supply chain transport logistics modelling capabilities to analyze questions relevant to national and global security.In 2022-2023, Dr. Godde was Group Leader for the CSIRO Food Systems and Global Change Group, and served on the CSIRO Agriculture & Food Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) Team as Sustainability Program representative.Prior to joining CSIRO, Cécile acquired other international experiences working on conservation and sustainable agricultural development projects for the non-governmental organisation Greening Australia (Australia), the International Livestock Research Institute (Costa-Rica), the multinational MARS Inc. (Brazil) and the French governmental agency for organic agriculture-Agence BIO (France).Her research has been recognised through a number of scholarships and awards. In 2018, Cécile was awarded the QLD Government Women in STEMM award, the University of Queensland Postgraduate Student for the Year, the CSIRO Directors Award and QAAFI Excellence Award. She was also granted the full time CSIRO scholarship, the IIASA YSSP Scholarship and the Homeward Bound leadership scholarship. Her work has been featured in various media from Science to ABC TV and radio. She is frequently invited to speak about science, leadership and gender equity with broad audiences (e.g. World Science Festival, WOMADelaide Planetary Talks, etc.)
