Roles involving:• Product development of ceramifying polymeric materials through the coordination, development, execution and analysis of laboratory- and pilot-scale fire response assessments.• Assisting in the commercialization of ceramifying materials, in close association with a commercial research partner, by providing advice regarding fire-resistance performance, relevant Australian and International Standards and related building code requirements. Contributions to Intellectual Property management and also occasional public relations activities.• Coordination of the fire-resistance related activities for the commercial research partner and its customers under non-disclosure conditions, including the preparation of experimental construction materials and dissemination of technical reports and information describing observed behaviour.• Undertaking collaborative research under the auspices of the Cooperative Research Centre for Polymers for the advancement of passive fire protection materials.

Materials Science research into fire retardant and fire resistant materials, involving:• Development of ceramifying PVC materials as passive fire protection agents, particularly within fire door and fire-rated vision panel applications. • Production of laboratory-scale ceramifying materials, and the coordination of scale-up and commercial-scale compounding activities with CRC-P project partners.• Research and development of novel halogen-free fire-retardant materials for wire and cable sheath applications.• Development of a range of advanced polyolefin materials, including the provision of functional surfaces for improved printing capabilities, silane-grafted moisture crosslinkable systems and novel grafted polymers for nanocomposite and fire-retardant applications.• Participation in the research and development of high melt-strength PET for blow-mouldable consumer drink bottles.• Supervision and guidance of PhD, Masters and Honours post-graduate chemistry students.
