I am a technical lead for the Births, Deaths and Marriages platform, and its Integration points throughout DIA and other Departments.

TelstraClear purchased by Vodafone. I have retained the same position as below.

My role currently is to admin our fleet of internal corporate, and external customer facing ISP servers and applications to make sure they're functioning and operating in line with business expectations. We field escalated issues from the Tier 2 support team on the Helpdesk, and from within the organisation.We also have a handful of large enterprise customers of which we look after some of their infrastructure for them too.Main work includes Operating Systems such as Solaris 8 to 11, SuSE Linux 9 to 11, RHEL Linux, Debian & its variants. Some light MySQL/Oracle database work (we have a separate DBA team too).This includes day to day BAU running, admin work, patching, escalations, product improvements, product/app deployments, and liaising with/supporting various other teams throughout the organisation. I also engage vendors for software support and hardware replacements at the datacenters both during business, and after hours.Virtualisation is starting to come into the company now too. Although our team are not entirely responsible for the overall Virtualisation farms, we do have an access role to fulfil our admin requirements for our Linux servers. We have our own lab environment on which we have full access to, however this is just testing/R&D.There's an on-call component too, which requires one week of being on-call, which usually includes scheduled after hours work.

This position was starting out as a Helpdesk agent, fielding calls from customers. 6 months later, I was asked to move up into Tier2 support.This role was providing assistance to the Tier1 Helpdesk when they had issues with customer queries they needed more info/help on.I was also required to perform webmaster and postmaster duties for both ISP's that the organisation ran - Clear.net.nz and Paradise.net.nz.Amongst this work, I was also asked to train the new helpdesk recruits for their 3-4 day induction on all things related to IP/Internet.Escalations were also required on occasion, up to Tier3, which is where I am now situated.
