During the time that my 2 boys (now teenagers) were growing up, I was keen to be at home with them, so I took a break from teaching and created my own small business as a self-taught graphic designer. KEY SKILLS- Growing my own profitable business from scratch.- Creating and working to realistic deadlines, managing customer expectation.- Managing the finances of a small business.- Using design programmes such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Illustrator.- Writing product descriptions and creating effective product photography.- Creating links with other businesses to help produce and sell my designs.- Hiring and managing part-time members of the Name Art team during busy periods.ACHIEVEMENTS- I created my own unique designs, fitting words/names into shapes and sold them as pictures, on mugs, placemats, clothing and phone cases.- I brought all my production 'in house' and opened a studio where products were made from design through to dispatch.- I built my own website from scratch, using Dreamweaver, but then successfully applied to become a notonthehighstreet partner and also sell my products on Etsy.- I held a profitable chalet at the well-renowned Bath Christmas Market.- I developed a strong social media presence and can, through effective use of social media, can boast high profile customers, such as Danni Minogue, Theo Paphitis and Kirsty Allsopp. This business has taken a back seat, but still ticks over, because I turned my attention more fully back to education once my children were settled into school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Full-time year 2 teacher for one year as sick cover, this included the delivery of SATS.- PPA cover across the primary range.- Job share, year 1 class teacherACHIEVEMENTS- Following a period of time away from the classroom, this gave me the opportunity to work across the key stages, planning and delivering a range of lessons. - As part of my PPA cover role, I especially enjoyed planning a unit of problem solving activities for children in year 4, linked to Design Technology. I built on the knowledge I gained through the creation of my own business and taught them, in a child-friendly way, about the route from product idea through to selling and customer services.
