The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) develops and proves innovative manufacturing processes and technologies in an agile, low risk environment, in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions. We focus on delivering bespoke manufacturing system solutions for our customers.We operate some of the most advanced manufacturing equipment in the world, and employ a team of highly skilled engineers, many of whom are leading experts in their field. This creates a high quality environment for the development and demonstration of new processes and technologies on an industrial scale.The MTC’s areas of expertise are directly relevant to both large and small companies, and are applicable across a wide range of industry sectors. The MTC’s members include global manufacturing companies from multiple sectors. Research partners include the University of Birmingham, University of Nottingham, Loughborough University and TWI Ltd.The MTC is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.

This research program developed experimental procedures and numerical simulation of the ocular vessel, inculding the developement of two new constitutive material models.Data obtained from experimental analysis leads to microstructural representation of mechanical stiffness, anisotropy, regional variation and viscoelasticity of the human eye in-vivo. Knowledge, and representation, of these properties has been used to improve eye healthcare in a number of areas including measurement of internal eye pressure for glaucoma management, introduction of corneal implants in keratoconus, and planning of refractive surgery in myopia.

Fracture Mechanics of Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Composites

Researching novel scleral buckling devices through numerical and experimental analysis. Working under the local supervision of Professor David Wong.
