As a member of the Ohio chapter's development and marketing teams, I collaborate with TNC's conservation staff to write high-quality private grant proposals and impact reports, factsheets, thank you letters, and Ohio's annual report. Throughout my time at TNC, I have helped fundraise more than $5 million for traditional and community-led conservation in Ohio and beyond, from the Appalachian Mountains to Indonesian Borneo.In addition to my core responsibilities, I serve on a People of Color-led committee to develop more equitable and inclusive career advancement opportunities; represent TNC at urban community events and volunteer work days; and briefly curated a monthly DEI-themed internal newsletter (September 2022-June 2023).

The Columbus Young Professionals Club is a regional hub that advances community, conversations, careers, and culture for emerging leaders in Central Ohio. As an Event Coordinator for the Polaris Night Markets, Upper Arlington Night Markets, and Grandview Hops, I assisted 180+ vendors with set up/tear down and ensured all attendees had fun at neighborhood events throughout the summer.

Contrary to the title, I began my tenure with the admissions office the summer following my sophomore year, but my basic job responsibilities remained the same. I led tour groups, shared my experiences via student panels, and conducted 1-on-1 interviews with prospective students. Sprinkled throughout my term with admissions, I also worked on projects such as a tour guide training manual and numerous mailings to 1,000+ recipients.

During my first semester as a consultant, I worked two hours a week at the Writing Center in tandem with a semester-long training course called "The Art and Craft of Analytical Writing." The course and my simultaneous, hands-on application of its concepts allowed me to master the art of reviewing like a reader, not a grader. This mindset encouraged me to go beyond spelling and grammar and to focus instead on global or conceptual issues. By working through thesis revisions and paragraph organization, writers nuanced their complex ideas and gained new skills to approach future papers. As an added bonus, I walked away with new knowledge about topics from English Literature to Microbiology!

REACH is an acronym for Recognizing Each Other's Ability to Conquer the Hill, and it is a peer-mentoring program that supports first-year students’ transitions into college. Anyone can join the group, but we focus on the retention of underrepresented students, such as students of color, first-generation students, and students from low-income backgrounds. In my role, I onboarded undergraduate mentors and offered ongoing advice for anticipating and addressing the challenges faced by first-year students in a residential college environment.

Over the course of eight weeks, I canvassed hundreds of houses to discuss issues important to Ohio voters across the political spectrum. In the process, I gained new insight into Midwestern politics and understood more deeply the topics that affect people's lives, such as education, healthcare, and the opioid epidemic.

KEEP is a competitive scholarship program that allows students from under-represented backgrounds to graduate loan-free. Prior to their first undergraduate semester, KEEP scholars participate in an intensive five-week summer program, earning credit toward graduation by taking two courses taught by Kenyon faculty. I worked as a Writing Teaching Assistant (TA) for the program during the summer of 2017, challenging my students to think critically and write analytically.

Working in a first-year college residence hall, I cultivated a home away from home for students from across the country and the world. I fostered new friendships by hosting events and supported my residents during my weekly "open door hours," which allowed students to stop by and ask questions about college life. To maintain good relationships among my residents, I also mediated conflicts by holding everyone accountable to their community and roommate contracts.
