A highly regarded optical physicist and imaging algorithm designer, Dr. Chen began creating Perfusio’s imaging technology in 2008. With comprehensive knowledge in visible and near-infrared imaging and computer visualization, Dr. Chen was one of the first to recognize the enormous clinical potential for real-time application. Utilizing fluorescence, laser speckle imaging, and multi-spectral sensing and illumination, Dr. Chen designed the technical framework of Multi-Spectral Physiologic Visualization (MSPV).With expertise in imaging algorithms, visualization, and optics hardware, Dr. Chen built Perfusio’s IP strategy and various patent applications of this technology. His vision leads to further applications, new designs, intellectual property, and product expansions. His patent portfolio currently has over twenty issued/allowed patents, with many additional applications under review nationally and internationally.Dr. Chen earned his doctorate in Biomedical Physics and mater in Medical Device Engineering and then built a career in multi-spectral functional imaging and entrepreneurship in medical device startup. Dr. Chen has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Chen previously served at the Physics and Engineering Departments and he has retired as associate professor at East Carolina University and is now an adjunct associate professor with the university.
